Shaving the side of my hair/head.

Just that really, the hair I want is on the left, I am the lady on the right, no make up and pretty much first thing in the morning.
I have been slowly toning and bleaching my hair to get it to a white/grey colour (I'm due a toner, you can tell).
I've been toying with the idea I'd shaving some of it off, but really worried as I have a chubby face and rarely wear make up (2yo & 12 week old keep me busy), will I pull it off or will I make myself look butch and less feminine?
Please be kind but I was just feeling out for some opinions.
I already have quite an alternative style and thick hair so I could hide the undercut, but obviously it would take forever to grow out if I didn't like it.

I think your hair as it is looks much better than the model's in the picture, so I wouldn't do it - especially as shaving takes so long to grow out.

buttyblahblah · 28/07/2019 12:30

Do it! If you don't like it will grow back, even if it's a bit awkward for a while.

You have a pretty face and good eyebrows so you'll look cool even without makeup.

silverystream · 28/07/2019 12:51

Slick it back with some gel maybe pop a comb slide in to hold it back. It will give you an idea of how it suits you or maybe get be enough to give you the look you want.

silverystream · 28/07/2019 12:52

If you know someone who can braid hair that might also be a good option to hold one side back.

MsHopey · 28/07/2019 13:21

I've tried the plaits and love it.
I just really don't want to regret it.

Do it, it suits you. You may as well do it now whilst you can pull it off

BobTheFishermansWife · 28/07/2019 13:32

Do it, it's such a cooling style to have in the summer, the only advice I have for you is, NEVER shave it yourself, I took an extra chunk out of my hair, hairdresser still won't let me live it down 😂 also, when you decide to grow it out, stick with it and product it down, because you will have a silly side stick out for a few weeks.

silverystream · 28/07/2019 14:50

Plaits look really good!🙂

happytobemrsg · 28/07/2019 16:13

The plaits look fabulous so I think you could really pull it off

FireDoDoDoDooo · 28/07/2019 16:21

Yes it does suit you!

MsHopey · 28/07/2019 16:46

DH just keeps saying "Get the clippers and scissors out then!" 😬

Do it! I LOVED mine from the second I did it

OrchidFlakes · 28/07/2019 17:52

I never say this to ‘extreme’ hairstyles but OMG do it! The original pic is fab and you look awesome with the braids!

ZazieTheCat · 28/07/2019 17:54

You look fab, do it. I did it one summer and it grew out in no time once I wanted a change.

tierraJ · 28/07/2019 17:58

To be honest I love your hair as it is & wish mine was as thick & curly as yours. It's the same length but sooo fine unfortunately.

But I'm not into alternative styles so not the best person to comment although I do like the braids.
My cousin's daughter had a blonde graduated bob & shaved the side of her head. It did really suit her.

SilveryMountainStream · 28/07/2019 18:08

It's looks fab! How about trying it braided/gelled back for a week to see if you still like the look when you see it everyday as opposed to the novelty element of seeing it new IYSWIM? Then if still love it get your hairdresser to do it for you.

I know people say it's only hair/it will grow back, but when I've had my hair cut and not liked it afterwards, it's taken me until it's grown back to feel good about myself again.

MsHopey · 28/07/2019 18:22

Tried to section what I think would be a good amount. Not taken the plunge yet.
The left is how it would look swept to the side, the right is a middle parting that would hide the shaved bit (its twisted and then plaited, so while still there it probably one of the best representations I'm going to get).
So I could hide it if need be.

Do it! Suits your style and it’ll always grow out!

CodenameVillanelle · 28/07/2019 19:34

Whoah you just went and did it! Good on you

Justbloodystopit · 28/07/2019 19:37

I've got a shorter version of this, with both sides shaved and I often flip it over to hide, for work, or do a side parting, with a section underneath coloured blue, pink, purple.. ... I'm 42 and a teacher, I get away with it!

Loooper · 28/07/2019 19:41

Whoop! You did it! It looks awesome OP!

BloodyhellMartha · 28/07/2019 19:42

I think that looks great! Well done you, for being brave.

MsHopey · 28/07/2019 19:52

It's something I've been too scared to do for years. You guys gave me the confidence to just go for it!
It's a big change so I'm a little bit nervous about it, even though it's already done, I just need a few days to play with it and get used to it.
Thanks everyone 👍🏻
You made me brave.

I've just given dd a shaved undercut (back rather than side) and she can't help running her fingers along it now, bet you will be the same. :)
