I am looking for the holy grail of work trousers...

Ok, so. I am looking for trousers that are:

-available in size 18-20
-smart
-dark but not necessarily black
-fitted but not skinny
-finish just above the ankle
-high-waisted
-generously-pocketed
-not in that horrible crackly plastic material beloved of whoever designs the Sainsbury's workwear range.
-not totally extortionate

Bonus points for a top you think would go well with them.

I am truly crap at clothes shopping and have no time to trawl shops in the immediate future. If anyone can find me trousers that match this description I shall sing your praises from all available rooftops henceforth.

Boden Richmond?

Gillybobs · 27/07/2019 13:33

Yep, Boden Richmond 7/8 trousers (not the full length ones), always buy with a20% discount code, they last years, cost per wear is excellent

SwedishEdith · 27/07/2019 13:36

Uniqlo.

InTheWalls · 27/07/2019 13:39

Definitely the Boden Richmond 7/8 trousers. I love mine.

Not the cheapest out there but they wash and wash and represent good value for money.

OxanaVorontsova · 27/07/2019 13:43

Another vote for Richmond 7/8! I'm also a fan of H&M trousers, their sizing is far more sensible than it used to be.

Jacksback · 27/07/2019 18:50

Dp do exactly those £20 per pair
Lots of colours wash well hang up and no minimal ironing
Great for work unless everyone else is in Hobbs 😉

CmdrCressidaDuck · 27/07/2019 19:11

Yep. Boden Richmonds. They're perfect. Have at least 4 pairs now in different lengths and colours.

BirdsAndBlips · 27/07/2019 21:00

Next tapered trousers, same requirements and size as you and they fit perfectly (ref 584-624)

Rainbowsandrascals · 27/07/2019 21:22

Navy ankle grazers from Monsoon in the sale.

HouseTetralemma · 27/07/2019 21:46

You are all fab. I'm definitely going to try the Boden ones and will have a look at the others too! Thanks!

Asos have loads in - although not sure about pockets

grafittiartist · 27/07/2019 22:37

Agree with the dorothy P suggestion. These are so comfy and smart. Wash very well too.

Lucked · 28/07/2019 00:10

I am a bit meh about the fit of the Richmond’s as they area bit baggy over the bum and thigh on me and I haven’t got over boden discontinuing the Bistro trousers. However I haven’t found anywhere but boden that consistently has good quality machine washable work trousers.

Incidentally I have just redyed my Richmond’s black as they had washed out slightly (many washes) but where otherwise perfect and they look brand new.

CmdrCressidaDuck · 28/07/2019 08:58

Fwiw I love the fit of the Richmonds and Boden trousers generally and I'm a tricky fit (small waist, curvy arse). Trouser fit is v individual, but they are great quality.
