Jeans for women who are bottom heavy

I am 44, 5ft 6 and 155llbs and always on a never ending quest to find jeans and work trousers to fit properly. My challenge is that my top half and bottom half belong to different people. My upper body is from my English father so its small and thin...flat chest, protruding collar bone, rounded shoulders, skinny noodle arms and a 29 inch waist. I like my food but so there is a bit of pudge but I would say it's a normal waist. Then comes the lower body from my Dutch mother. I have always been a cyclist, hiker and now the kids are grown up I can get to the gym twice a week and do legs as it's easierSmile. I have a 43 inch hips, a big powerful arse and thunderous thighs. Bum still wobbles when I jump so there is a layer of fluff but I'm still proud of it as it's round loud and proud down there. This means i usually can't get jeans, trousers, hiking pants or dressed shorts past my quads and if I do they are huge on the waist and lead to a gape at the back. I then have to cinch the material with a belt and it spoils the whole look. Anyone similar and can you help point me in the right direction? I am certainly not a fashionista but I can do better than my current wardrobe

Have you tried something high waisted and ‘mom jean’ style? I found some alright straightish ones in m and a not long ago. I will have a look and see if they are still available online.

Pretty little thing have a curve range. Big bums/thighs/hips and small waists. They first beautifully - I was told say come up a size big. Look past the stripper like clothes, and the jeans/trousers are alright

user1471449295 · 18/07/2019 21:37

Fit, not first. Autocorrect fail

Teddybear45 · 18/07/2019 21:44

I have a similar figure. Top shop’s Joni jeans are really flattering and better quality than anything I’ve tried on specifically for curvy women.

Thanks. I haven't been in TopShop for some time. Are their jeans thick enough? I appreciate I need stretch to accommodate a larger butt, but the jeggings look can look sub-par to say the least. Also do the thighs wear? I have worn so many really quickly. You're not a cyclist too by any chance? I think horse riders have a similar issue

Thanks @cheezy that would be great. I haven't tried too many high waisted but maybe that's just a necessity with this shape

No they don’t wear and yes you can get thick denim styles. I have worn them on long hikes / walks and they don’t wear on the thighs which used to be a huge problem for me.

bettybooroo · 18/07/2019 23:01

@Teddybear45 thank you very much. I will try them out. I do a lot of hiking so they may come in useful. I tried on North Face and they didn't get past my knees. Anyway at least big glutes help our hiking? My husband always wonders why I'm ahead of him.

@cheezy they look nice but maybe it's just the model wearing them - I am 4 times her width. I will try them on though.

Haha so true.

bettybooroo · 19/07/2019 07:15

@user1471449295 thanks I will try them out. They seem to have a good returns policy

Lucy and Yak high waisted jeans and trousers are amazing - they do require a certain amount of rethinking of tops though, if you're used to wearing a skinny style with long tops over it. Toast trousers are also excellent for big legs.

Boden (I know...) also tend to have a good cut for big bums on their trousers. And Ralph Lauren, although their waists are always too big.

Don't forget you can always take things with a large waist to the tailors and get them to take it in to stop the gaping.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 19/07/2019 07:30

I find that Topshop jeans fall to pieces after about 6 months - they start to get holes along the seams of the inner thighs - but that might just be me!

Modestandatinybitsexy · 19/07/2019 07:35

Levi's have a curve range and will also help you with fittings in store. They can also make some alterations if needed.

RushianDisney · 19/07/2019 07:43

Topshop jeans with loads of stretch wear out so so quickly, the seams on the inner thighs on mine were pretty threadbare after only a few months. I am constantly on the hunt for good jeans, the Topshop Boutique boyfriend jeans are great though, as they are 100% cotton and better quality denim than the normal range. I'm 34-26-40 so also curvy and I find they accommodate a small waist and big bum well. You might be better off having some too big jeans tailored like Kim K.

bettybooroo · 19/07/2019 07:48

I echo the point with TopShop jeans not based on experience but my cycling team is not short of big thighs and they have all complained about wearing the crotch. It's not as bad as last summer on a group hike in Peru and whilst doing a mini scramble my North Face pants actually split down the backside in front of an amused group of Chinese tourists. I will try Levi - I just wanted to avoid having to tailor every pair of trousers or item of clothing I buy but will do it if necessary. Kim K is the kardashian girl? I don't take notice of the celebs. She seems to have a big bum but then skinny legs where as my thighs are beasts

I find Levi are the only jeans that I don't have to keep hitching up as they fit properly on the waist. I've also bought some Mom jeans from H&M, the denim is nice and thick and the legs are actually lose, I know that's the style but I didn't expect them to fit properly. They were only around £25 so worth trying? Fit is true to size as well

runningtogetskinny · 19/07/2019 09:08

*loose!!

Teddybear45 · 19/07/2019 11:38

I have a high waist to hip ratio (28: 42) with big thighs and find Levis curve range unsuitable in that they are still often too big around the waist. Topshop’s Joni jeans in a thick denim style works best for me and I don’t have any issue with crotch or thigh rip (lol) with those even when hiking. I guess you should just try on a variety of jeans.

bettybooroo · 19/07/2019 12:14

@Teddybear45 Just PM'd as I may be trying in wrong style. You have the exact same stats. Thanks for the help
