Im a bit crap at dyeing my hair and I put it off for as long as I can, have most shops in the nearest city so I need your recommendations for ease of use and longevity. thanks

I like the olia ones. Don't smell too hideous, and the conditioner that comes with them is lovely. I use their dark brown and the grey coverage (like you, I don't have loads but need to cover what I have!) is great.

Interestingly, I like Schwarzkopf Live for bright colours when I do them, but don't rate their "ordinary" colours at all. The brown ones give a very flat colour that doesn't cover grey very well.

I think they are all much the same, j would use a demi permanent like Casting for first gray hair and go a shade lighter than you think so if you are dark go mid brown as all hair colours go on darker in my experience!

I also use the olia ones. They work really well and don't make you look like a 1970's granny who is desperately clinging to her youth.

@merlotqueen, My hair is naturally almost black, so I need it dark brown.

I used the iced chocolate colour from olio. It's very very dark brown

I use Superdrug’s own because it’s the cheapest. I’ve used more expensive ones and honestly, I think they’re all much of a muchness. Superdrug works fine and covers the grey nicely.

I would always go one shade lighter and one tone more ashy than you think you want. Pretty much all home dyes lean very dark and very red in my experience.

I like the John Frieda Mousse personally.

Schwarzkopf omegaplex seems to give me better results than the many other brands I have tried, and also leaves my hair in better condition

Singlenotsingle · 17/07/2019 20:46

Nice 'n Easy does the job.

ihatethecold · 17/07/2019 21:00

Thanks. My peri menopausal hair is going a bit frizzy so one that leaves my hair in good condition is a must.

I use medium or chocolate brown by nice and easy

Mine is dark brown naturally

EverybodysTalkingAtMe · 17/07/2019 23:02

Superdrug own brand in semi permanent- it lasts just as long but doesn't fade to orange, unlike permanent dyes.

SlimGin · 17/07/2019 23:04

I also use Olia Dark Brown, the conditioner is amazing and the application is simple. Boots usually do an offer so I usually save money by buying two at once.
Hard to say regarding the longevity as I do find it fades after a couple of months but I also use a Lush shampoo bar which I don't think helps things.

Nonotmenori · 17/07/2019 23:05

Schwarzkopf omegaplex I second this.
