Would you buy a dress for £45 that is made of 100% polyester?

As the title says. It was a dress bought online from a well known brand. The material feels horrible.

Nope! I would be a sweaty mess

CherryPavlova · 07/07/2019 07:27

I would avoid a polyester dress even if it only cost £5

WanderingTrolley1 · 07/07/2019 07:27

If I liked the dress, yes. If you’re unhappy, return it.

Palaver1 · 07/07/2019 07:28

Return it

BillywilliamV · 07/07/2019 07:29

Maybe, if it was a one night dress and it looked stunning on.

I am biased, I have been prom dress shopping for months!

MrsShaff · 07/07/2019 07:30

I'v already paid postage and returns are not free either. I just want to know if that price tag worth for a such a horrible material? It's sweaty for summer and too thin for winter

I don't sweat in polyester like I used to. Maybe the quality has generally improved or I'm just less sweaty! I have quite a few things made of polyester now and they are great. The alternative is cotton, which needs ironing and doesn't always hang as well, or silk, which quite a few of my clothes are made of but it's not the most practical for my line of work. Then there's viscose, which again, can be good.

dimsum123 · 07/07/2019 07:31

No.

AnotherEmma · 07/07/2019 07:35

No. I always check the material and don't buy polyester.

If you're returning it within 14 days you have the right to a refund of the postage as well as the purchase price.

Well, you’re obviously not happy, so you can either be £45 out of pocket and keep it, or be only £7/8 out of pocket and return it.

MrsShaff · 07/07/2019 07:46

I'm returning it. Thank you all

I haven't worn polyester on my upper body since the 80s. Perhaps it's changed but back then, if I sweated in it, I found the material captured the smell and stained.

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 07/07/2019 12:06

I would if the dress was strappy with armpit clearance

StarlightLady · 07/07/2019 14:14

I wouldn’t return a dress just because it was polyester, but there is polyester and polyester if that makes sense. It would depend on how it felt against the skin

With regard to price, I don’t think poly costs any less to produce than cotton either, althogh l may be wrong there. In addition some cheap cottons (NB: l am not saying all cottons!) look like a rag in no time.

Viscose is a great alternative, it’s a natural fabric (it’s made from bamboo) and keeps its shape.
