I have the worst legs ever

It’s lovely and hot and I see everyone wearing lovely dresses and shorts.
I wish I had the courage to wear these but I feel so down and depressed about my legs.

They are full of cellulite - I know loads of us have this but my legs are covered from the knee up!

They are covered in stretch marks. These begin from the back of my calf and extend up. They are on the front of my legs too.

They are wobbly, and untoned. Whilst my body is around a size 10 my thighs are big and jiggle.

I have bow legs so rather than being straight all the way down, they bow outwards from the knee. It looks ugly and awful.

They are also really hairy as I have dark thick body hair. I feel conscious of stubble.

With all of these issues I feel I just can’t wear anything above the knee. On my holidays I wear a sarong and only let go of it when I get to the edge of the pool.

Am I being silly?
Should I just get over all this and get them out?
If you saw someone wearing a little dress or shorts with wobbly cellulite, stretch marks, a bit of body hair and bow legs what would you think? Would you stare?

Fonatella, where did you get the bandeau strapless bra from please

Ebay - 3 pack £7.99 - black, white, flesh. Bloody brilliant they are and so cheap when the elastic starts to go you can just chuck' em.

I'm sure you can get more expensive, fancier ones but what's the point when these do the job?

Fantastic under Bardot tops / off shoulder etc. Even halters. And so comfy! I've been wearing one all day today - been to the pub (daughters birthday), had food etc. come home and I'm still wearing it.

A normal bra would be straight off as soon as I was through the front door!

"look at the legs on THAT"..., I don't know who he was referring to but insecure me took it to heart

I know it depends how it was said but it could have been said in 'admiration' (is the admiration of teenager really what you want, and if it was said to be cruel why do you care what horrible children think?).

But have a think, can you remember anything about how any of them looked? Were they all perfect examples of masculinity? Or were they very average looking unpleasant teenage boys? We do not exist for the pleasure of other people, it is not your job to look 'pretty'. Wear what you feel comfortable in and don't worry what others think.

TigerJoy · 06/07/2019 20:48

Fontanella, when you say big boobs.....I'm a 36E do you think those bandeau tops would work for me? I haven't found a strapless bra that would work for me for years!

Fontella · 06/07/2019 21:03

I'm a 38 DD and they work for me. They've been a lifesaver to be honest.

I hate wearing bras. I have to sometimes but I find them so uncomfortable and I've been fitted, and paid loads of money, but all they seem to do is hoist my gigantic bosoms up onto the front of my chest and I look so out of proportion.

I'm an odd shape, short body, long legs, narrow hips. Huge boobs and I've got plump upper arms which is where I seem to store my fat. No waist to speak off - because I'm so short in the torso.

The bandeau bras just give me enough support, so my boobs aren't hanging round my waist, which they would be left to their own devices. They are soft and comfy and also have a slightly flattening effect, like a minimiser bra. They just suit my body shape, but I'm not sure if they would work for everyone.

All you can do is try.

Just don't do what I did yesterday

Just don't do what I did yesterday

Ouch, that looks so sore!

TigerJoy · 06/07/2019 21:15

Thanks so much Fontanella!

I'll try them. I've a totally different body shape but I really struggle with bras. I've got a sore gland on my left boob that underwires always press into so whenever I can I wear soft bras. Life as a woman, eh?

IdblowJonSnow · 06/07/2019 21:27

Op, fashion is on your side at the mo! Midi skirts, cullottez that come to mid lower leg, longer length shorts, playsuits etc.
I've got manky thighs but decent legs below the knee. Just shave your legs, put on a bit of fake tan and find some flattering clothes.
Make peace with your body, it's the only one you'll ever have! And yes, I know this is easier said than done and almost all of us have a bit or bits we really don't like!
Hope this helps.

StringedBeans · 06/07/2019 21:40

Meant very, very kindly here but really @Rubydoo18 no-one really will give two-hoots about your legs. Honestly. Seriously.

90% of people will be too busy thinking about something else (what to have for tea, whether to LTB, what to watch on Netflix, whether the chap they are flirting with at work will be at the summer BBQ.

The other 10% may look at you and actively think/notice what you are wearing. Some will think "nice shorts. " Some will think "don't like those shorts". Someone will think "Shit, wish I'd shaved my legs so I could have worn shorts." And the odd horrible person may think "God, awful legs." Which says more about them than you.

Get your legs out. Don't give a fuck. Enjoy your body. Life is too fucking short and stressy to worry about what the small minority of random people might (or might not) think of you Flowers

GiggleMcDimples · 06/07/2019 22:06

Fontella the joys of being ginger 🙈🙈🙈

frugalkitty · 06/07/2019 22:10

@CountFosco it mattered because I was a teenager when I heard it said. Nowadays I'd tell the buggers not to be so rude, but to an insecure 13/14 year old girl (who went to an all girls school) a comment like that from a group of boys wasn't easy to hear.

Kel801 · 06/07/2019 22:17

When I was young I took some drugs, had a drug induced psychosis (now fully recovered) and cut my legs to smithereens trying to get what I thought was poisonous blood out... fast forward 15 years and I have finally started getting my legs out a bit.... several people I have spent the day with whilst wearing shorts didn’t even notice the scars .. the moral of the story is, I think we think others pay us way more attention that they actually do! Get your legs out and enjoy the summer xx

Rubydoo18 · 07/07/2019 10:14

Some really lovely positive messages on here thank you so much. So I did get my legs out yesterday, I wore a floaty cotton skirt to the knee. Was out all day with the kids and yes I have to say initially I was a bit conscious of who was walking behind me but after that I totally forgot about it!

The sally hensen legs things sounds amazing, this may help me with having the confidence of wearing above the knee. Smile

Does anyone have any tips for improving cellulite?

I hate my legs. Really hate them. I’m not big a size 10 but used to be a size 8 and have put on a lot of weight I can’t shift and it’s all
Gone to my thighs in the form of cellulite and wobliness.
For the last 2 -3 months I’ve been dieting and waking more and no effect. I was using a cellulite serum and intensive massage and it’s just made my arms ache tbh

I decided the other day I was too hot and sweaty in leggings and needed to take the baby for a walk so I put on some v short thin cotton short and walked for 2 hours round the local v quiet park, I’m hoping a bit of colour may develop on my legs and make them look better. I feel better not so hot but I was self conscious as they are so bad to look at but I’m trying to tell myself to be less insecure
It’s so hard though, everywhere else in me looks slim and I have these awful cellulitey out of proportion legs and bum

progestermoan · 07/07/2019 10:23

Even when I was a size 8 I had cellulite on my thighs I’m not sure there’s much you can do if you’re prone to it.
I’ve been massaging and although the appearance is the same I’ve notived it isn’t painful anymore so who knows maybe it’s breaking down ? At first it was agony and I bruised now not as much 🤷‍♀️

SolitudeAtAltitude · 07/07/2019 13:24

Progestermoan, the way you describe yoyr legs, are you sure it's not lipoedema?!

progestermoan · 08/07/2019 10:06

Never heard of that I’ll have a google

lovelyjessie · 08/07/2019 13:38

If you don't like something, change it.
Work for it,work to be the best option of yourself!

PinkLipsDontLie · 08/07/2019 15:09

"I’ve tried laser but the hair is so strong it grew back even though I had 8 sessions 😳"

If you have light skin and dark hair, there's no way laser would fail so bad! Are you sure it was alexandrite laser and they used the correct intensity on you? After my own 8 sessions I only did it twice in 2 yrs, and only for a few hairs here and there, not really too visible.

I suffer from wobbly thighs and too much cellulite too, as a pear shape.. a few stretchmarks just making the whole thing so much nicer Sad.

My tips: exercise to tone up the legs and arms (if you have great arms, you can show these off and it will detract from your lower half Wink).

A few sessions of full body massage, with emphasis on lower half. If anything, it will make you feel great :)

Light gradual tanning moisturizer instead of body make up. At least it washes off..

Longer length shorts, midi skirts, cropped wide leg trousers, maxi dresses..

Gwenhwyfar · 08/07/2019 20:45

Of course, you can show your legs if you want to, but you can also wear long skirts, light trousers, tights or stockings. Quite a few options for hiding them really.

DrEmilyCrabtree · 08/07/2019 21:13

My legs never see the light of day and haven't for about 30 years. (To be fair, this probably doesn't help matters). They are obviously great at doing their main job, but they look awful :( bright white, except for the purple thread/varicose veins, fat wobbly thighs, thick calves and ankles. I never wear shorts, skirts dresses at all, and have only worn cropped trousers in my house. Not even the Sally Hansen stuff does anything for them.

I am going to a wedding where I plan to wear a midi dress. The dress is lovely but I am wondering if I am mad for considering it as not only will i have to wear tights i will probably need to put cover up make up on the legs too.
