Birkenstocks - very quick quality question (I'm in the shop!)

Do the cork soles last long? I have had two pairs of cork-based sandals die on me and I'm very wary of buying another pair! They tend to break under the ball of my big toe, where the foot bends.

I'm currently wearing my dog-walking sandals from Decathlon, feeling comfy but definitely not stylish Grin

Can anyone help? TIA

Mine have been indestructible unless they've got wet. Love them.

Never had a sole break but they do get grubby and stinky

SeaBear11 · 03/07/2019 11:15

They last a million years!

Clutterbugsmum · 03/07/2019 11:16

I've been wearing the same Birkenstocks for the last 3 years and they are just beginning to wear but still very wearable.

Peachesandcream14 · 03/07/2019 11:16

I've had my Birkenstocks for about 5 years and they are still in excellent condition, they are great value for money imo.

Crumpetswithbutter · 03/07/2019 11:16

Mine have broken exactly there, but I've had them at least seven years and wear them almost daily in summer, so they've had a good innings. I had knock-off versions in the past that broke over one summer, so the Birkenstocks have been amazing cost-per-wear value.

I only get one or at most two years and mine crack exactly where you describe plus the sole wears thin at the heel
I do wear them pretty much all summer though!

babysharkah · 03/07/2019 11:36

Mine have never broken but wow they can stink.

BiddyPop · 03/07/2019 11:43

I've worn my pair fairly solidly for a year, and show no signs of real wear.

Ellapaella · 03/07/2019 12:34

I had a pair I bought in 2003 that lasted until 2015! They were indestructible!
Then I bought a pair of Arizona's last year and within a few months the cork sole had started to deteriorate. Currently have a new pair of Bali's that seem to be doing well. Not sure if they make them as good as they used to though.

Same as another user! I just posted this on another thread. I have birkis from ten years ago that are still good. I used to wear them all the time.
Yesterday I returned two pairs of birkis from a hug I bought twelve weeks ago, both with deteriorating cork soles.
Really disappointing. Hardly worn them . They just crumbled.

Leatherflamingle · 03/07/2019 12:39

Not from a hug. From schuh!
