Right, this has been done to death but...first time bikini wax question

TMI alert here... I’ve just found grey pubes Envy not envy... I was thinking about having my first bikini wax (which I’m nervous as hell about) and going just for a basic wax, but should I grit my teeth and get everything whipped off? Or is that too much for a first session?

Personally I’d say that’s a bit much. Try a standard wax first so you know how much discomfort you can put up with. Take a couple of painkillers half an hour before, I find that helps. Next time get it taken a bit higher and eventually go for a Hollywood. I didn’t see the point but decided to try it last year out of curiosity. Now I go regularly and prefer it and thankfully it’s nowhere near as painful as the first time.

Smellslikebiscuits · 29/06/2019 18:26

When you book your appointment ask the therapist which type of wax they’ll use.
I find the hot wax, which they spread on thickly with a spatula, and then peel off, much less painful than the wax that is pulled off with the paper strips.

FMFL · 29/06/2019 19:00

Right so standard bikini wax and hope that next time I can get more off! How long after the first wax would I need to book again, no you know? I’m guessing as first time it’d be reasonably quick. Does it grow back itchy?Confused

I agree with the previous advice. Start with standard and get a couple more done with a bit more off each time then go for it. I get a Hollywood and I go every 6 weeks. I'd also recommend the hot wax rather than strip wax.

It doesn't grow back itchy.

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 29/06/2019 22:23

Yes hot wax way better and it gets much easier each time. I go 4/5 weeks but it’s getting thinner each time. It’s the only bit of me getting thinner Grin

Losttbh · 30/06/2019 18:03

I'm stuck at the Brazilian strip. Only thing I can recommend is not leaving it more than like 5 weeks I left it months in between and was like starting from the beginning pain wise. I'm going to try going every 3/4weeks from now on as I'm a bit of a wuss. I also have a better waxer now. Used to have this really stern lady. I think it helps finding one who talks a lot of makes you laugh. But that's just me. Good luck you'll be fine. I started with a g string wax.

JeSuisPrest · 30/06/2019 18:19

I started with a Hollywood for my first waxing session - in for a penny, in for a pound. Every 4 weeks. Hot wax and have the same lady every time. It definitely starts to get more sparse after about 6 months. Nothing dignified about it at all - on all fours for your bum crack and then spreading your legs for the labia, but if you have a good technician you'll be chatting away about sports day and the price of butter before you know it. It's a personal choice - I'll do what I want with my pubic hair before the "it's an aberration against nature and your dp must like little girls" brigade pile in...

FMFL · 30/06/2019 18:56

Sure @jesuisprest I’m definitely doing this for me and no one else. I’m sick of dealing with body hair and just want it gone Grin

I’m the same. It’s just one less thing to shave for me and means I can go swimming without spiders - for me and my convenience only. Wish I’d done it ages ago after endless rashes with home wax/ Veet/ razors.

MrHaroldFry · 30/06/2019 20:31

I would go with slightly extended bikini wax using hot wax, not strips, go to a waxing only salon, not a beauty place that does waxing and ask around for recommendations.
I take painkillers about an hour before my appointment.

NEtoN10 · 30/06/2019 20:39

Honestly it's not too bad! Agree PP go to a place that is well known/does a lot of waxes rather than somewhere that just does them now and then.

Eeee I've never been on all fours for a wax! At mine you just lie with your legs like a diamond and at the end to do your bum you being knees into the chest.

3luckystars · 30/06/2019 21:06

Get the whole lot off!

Lycon wax if you can find it. Good luck.

FMFL · 30/06/2019 21:21

Thank you, I’ll get googling!

I've recently had my second wax, I went to a technician recommended by several colleagues and also at their recommendation went straight for a Hollywood! I'm 38 and have always shaved. She chatted away about something and nothing the first time and although it was painful it lasted seconds each time. She used hot wax and chatted about the different kinds of waxes as she worked. I loved the results and know now that I'll keep it up! I went for a second wax 4 weeks after the first and have booked in for 4 weeks again. Just go for it!

StarlightLady · 30/06/2019 21:28

I agree with others, don’t go for all off until the second, or, maybe third time. You’ll never look back. You’ll also find sensitivity increases (in a nice way) without the hair in the way.

When you book, tell them it’s your first time and don’t go just before a period is due. It’s more painful then.

The MN Moral Bush Police, will wade in on this, as mentioned elsewhere. Enjoy being you! Flowers

HostessTrolley · 02/07/2019 14:22

Good maintenance in between takes moments and makes loads of difference. Exfoliate and a bit of moisturiser alternate days x

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 02/07/2019 17:26

Oh my god, I needed this thread in my life!

I have questions...
If you have a full on 70s Bush going on do you need to trim beforehand?

Asking for a friend 😏

JeSuisPrest · 02/07/2019 18:57

@RoryGillmoresEvilTwin The hair needs to be at least the length of a grain of rice for the hot wax to get a grip. If you've got a particular salon in mind I'd give them a call to discuss or look on their website - if they specialise in waxing they should have FAQ section - don't be embarrassed - if you trim it too short you'll have patchy areas where the wax couldn't grab the hair. Just had mine done again today. 10 minutes discomfort tops and soooooo worth it.
