Top heavy ladies... what are you wearing this summer?

I need some inspiration. I'm a 34HH, and currently sporting some belly fat that I need to disguise. Decent ish legs, though I don't have them on display often.
What the bloody hell do I wear? I don't like my shoulders so tend to keep them covered.

I need some ideas that aren't too pricey (been spending too much recently!)

I love the wide leg trouser look but I really can't carry them off...

Hello!

Watching with interest.

I'm a 34G and, as my username would suggest, I have gained a bit of weight this year! I blame breastfeeding all of last year and then stopping. I developed one hell of an appetite while bfing and didn't gain weight then stopped and... You get the picture! I also have a c section tummy to deal with after this last pregnancy and my mum tum wasn't great even before that!

So I am also quite stuck.

Things I have hanging in my wardrobe, which I think work well for me at the moment are:

  • short sleeved cotton maxi dress. Sort of boho style with a drawn in waist and v neck
  • bizarrely, a sleeveless, v neck jumpsuit. I don't know how it happens to suit me, but it does... I think!
  • green jersey, knee length wrap dress
  • loose fitting but tailored, not too short, shorts

Things I've bought this year and returned as they were hideous, include many tunic style tops which I thought would hide my top half well, but which, in fact, make me look pregnant / enormous on top.
Also numerous dresses which either come up too short, (I'm tall and leggy but oh so pale and not skinny, so it looks vile when I wear a short skirt), or else strain across my chest, (shirt dresses), despite fitting elsewhere.

Things I'm looking for now, to experiment with are v neck peasant tops, maybe some longer, floaty skirts and some more wrap dresses.

Watching this with interest!

@Fatkins I definitely have the same problem. It's the c section belly I'm trying to hide! And when you pair that with big boobs, everything looks like a tent!

I hear ya op 😭.

Im a top heavy / hourglass size 12-14, 5'8.

I've bought these which I've loved as they emphasise my waist and aren't tight round my arse and legs. Quite short which I don't mind.

I've been wearing with plain cotton t-shirts and that seems to be flatteriwww.newlook.com/uk/womens/clothing/shorts/black-twill-paperbag-shorts/p/615775401?CAWELAID=120310300002463108&extcam=UK_PPC_PLA_Google_DV_m&_cclid=Google_EAIaIQobChMI1sqZ46-A4wIVSbTtCh2n_ghSEAQYAyABEgKgoPD_BwE&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1sqZ46-A4wIVSbTtCh2n_ghSEAQYAyABEgKgoPD_BwEng. No necklace though. Necklaces obvs don't really work with tits and are particularly bad with this combo.

Also been wearing loads of tkmaxx shirt dresses in midi-length. Cover arse when leaning down to DC and are breezy in the heat, and not too naked when it's pouring down.

Splodgetastic · 23/06/2019 20:58

Goodness knows and dreading the heat this week. I am a stone lighter than this time last year but for some reason look more matronly and have had more fat jibes of late.

HarryHenderson · 23/06/2019 21:07

@WineIsMyCarb I really like them but I worry they may emphasise my waist rather than cover it? Not sure I could pull off the paper bag look... I'll try some on though, hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised!

@Splodgetastic well done on the weight loss! You've had more jibes since losing weight?! Ah, that will be from the jealous people who don't want to see you succeed! I'm sure you look fab!

I find the linen shell tops from Next fit well. Being a bit stiff, they skim but without having loads of excess material and making you look pregnant!

Splodgetastic · 23/06/2019 21:11

@HarryHenderson, you could be right, but as a top heavy lady the weight loss can also exaggerate the tent / billowing around the bottom half effect!

WineIsMyCarb · 23/06/2019 21:16

I have a bit of a pot belly and they sort of sit above it Grin so they are more flattering than you might think.

Fatkins · 24/06/2019 10:16

I've just bought a few bits off eBay.

A cotton dress with a sort of empire line, but not too pronounced, so hopefully it will be more tummy skimming than maternity wear. Also a top in a similar shape a boho v neck peasant type top and some cropped jeans. Wish me luck!
