If you carry most of your weight around your lower half, what are you wearing this summer?

I’m honestly at a loss. I’ve put on two stone since my last really traumatic pregnancy loss two years ago and have been trying to lose it unsuccessfully. I am probably naturally quite an hourglass figure. I have a waist but also large thighs and large arse.

In the cooler weather my style is skirts/dresses, black leggings, boots. This works quite well and seems to balance my figure okay. Come summer I haven’t a clue what to do I hate my thighs in trousers, I feel like I need to hide them, but trousers and long top just seems so dated 🤷‍♀️

Does anyone have a style that’s fairly modern but yet still gives coverage in warmer weather? I know I look ridiculous as my friend can be standing next to me looking all floaty and cool and I’m dressed head to toe in black like a goth 😬

I have recently bought some Hush Monaco trousers. I also wear Boden casual jersey dresses.

haverhill · 22/06/2019 15:10

Plain jersey maxis, try Krisp on Amazon. Big floaty trousers in a darkish colour with a colourful top (I wear light shirts knotted at the waist). Wedge type shoes can help balance a bigger lower half.

haverhill · 22/06/2019 15:11

Google ‘wide leg trousers’

cheezy · 22/06/2019 15:11

Empire lines tend to suit me best so I keep an eye out for cotton dresses in this style. seasalt can be flattering but I hate jersey, it’s clings to my lumpy bits terribly. Quite like a midi skirt that nips in at the waist too.

sheshootssheimplores · 22/06/2019 15:18

I love an empire line dress. I have one that I got in a charity shop and I get compliments all the time, but I’m pairing it with leggings as I hate my legs so much. My thighs chafe and I just feel more confident wearing leggings as I can’t be bothered with fake tan.

I don’t really like wide legged trousers but again it might just be because I’ve seen them worn in a old fashioned kind of a way.

I am an apple - not much of a waist, big boobs but good legs, and I am convinced all the styles in the shops are much more flattering on pear shaped!
Wide-legged trousers with neater/plainer tops
Ditto dresses that are fitted on top but flare out over hips + bum, knee-length or midi or maxi.

haverhill · 22/06/2019 15:22

Try Mantaray dresses too, not expensive.
I think the trick with wide trousers is to go properly wide and wear a top that defines your waist. No long tunic nonsense. How tall are you?

CaptainBrickbeard · 22/06/2019 15:23

If your thighs chafe, the Aztec chub rub shorts from the Big Bloomers Co are amazing - light and cool and perfect under dresses.

BigRedBoat · 22/06/2019 15:25

Asda liquid talc is good for chub rub, there are loads of midi dresses around at the moment which are good if you don't want to show too much leg.

colouringinpro · 22/06/2019 15:26

Roll on antipersperant works wonders for thigh chafe Grin. I'd say dresses and emphasise your waist. Funky necklace or ratings to draw eye up?

BillywigSting · 22/06/2019 15:31

I am very firmly in the pear shape category and I wear lots of maxi dresses and midi skirts with more tailored tops and shorts made of leggings material underneath to stop the chub rub.

My calves are passable but my thighs and bum are huge and not at all in proportion so I feel your pain, I have quite a small waist and good collarbones so try to show them off where I can.

I look awful in summer trousers

sheshootssheimplores · 22/06/2019 15:39

I’m 5ft 7 so not particularly short.

Ooh watching with interest

krustykittens · 22/06/2019 15:58

Empire line maxi dresses and Hell Bunny swing dresses - I love them in the summer and have five!

BillywigSting · 22/06/2019 17:20

Hellbunny dresses are great. Lindybop are also good for very reasonably priced swing dresses

Goodnightchristopherrobin · 22/06/2019 17:24

Summer? I’m still in jeans as it’s so cold Wink

checkmaid · 22/06/2019 17:24

I'm sorry about your pregnancy OP Thanks

I'm very similar and go for palazzo pants/wide leg trousers, or leggings with short dresses/long tops.

norrismcwhirtersfridgemagnet · 22/06/2019 17:51

If you like bold patterns have a look at Kemi Telford skirts - great with a t-shirt and denim jacket.

SkyBluePinkWithYellowDotsOn · 22/06/2019 18:12

Parachute dresses.

I have got a couple from here which are really good quality.

www.rubyanddaisy.co.uk/the-bayview-parachute-dress.ir

There are loads on Amazon and ebay as well, possibly cheaper but don't know what the quality are like and this shop is local to me so I could try them on before I bought. Incredibly flattering, drapey without being tent like. You can stick a denim jacket over as well for cooler days and they still look fab.

I only discovered them as I saw a lady in this one so told her I loved it and she shared the secret Smile

managedmis · 22/06/2019 19:07

Gotta agree that wide leg trousers are the way to go. They are very cool, flattering and look glamorous even though its just a pair of trousers Grin

From the sounds of your figure where them eiht a tighist top, maybe tucked in

managedmis · 22/06/2019 19:08

Eiht = with

haverhill · 22/06/2019 19:33
