What to wear to evening races at Goodwood?

I've never been to the races before and certainly have no idea what to wear to an event this Friday. Is it best to wear a dress? Any suggestions would be great. Thank you

If it’s anything like evening races at Aintree or then something like a jumpsuit or wide leg/high waist trousers and a nice top will be fine. Evening races are smart casual rather than full on daytime races dress and a hat.

It will be fairly casual and it’s not, repeat not, Aintree! Goodwood tends to be dresses for day but if it’s a chilly evening it might be goose bump time! I like a tailored summer trouser suit. M&S have the sort of thing in linen. Chic rather than overtly fashionable. Just a good quality t shirt or little top underneath is fine. If it turns out boiling hot, go for the dress, but it’s unlikely. Take comfortable shoes. The heel height won’t matter but wedges work well. It’s a beautiful course at Goodwood - have fun!

Thank you for that. I don't really want to buy a new outfit, as a single parent, so will try to make do with a plain sleeveless black jumpsuit with just a coral cardi/wrap to go over the top with a pair of black leather wedge sandals. Hope I will look okay. Don't have much confidence and am not used to going to events like this.
