What to wear to go out to dinner at this time of year?

I have a night out soon, starting with dinner in a hotel restaurant. The weather is so unpredictable. I usually rely on a dress with black tights and boots but that feels too wintery, yet I don't feel ready for sandals and bare legs.
Any suggestions?

Could you do a long dress/skirt, gradual tan legs a few nights before and ankle boots with bare legs? I always think that looks nice.

Looks out window "wellies for sure".

Really smart dark jeans, with a cami and silk kimono?

Shinygoldbauble · 16/06/2019 19:59

Thanks tellme. Not sure about long skirt with ankle boots though. I'm only 5'2 so the proportions can be tricky.

I like the sound of jeans and kimono. I really need new footwear. Any suggestions to go with that sort of outfit?

Midi dress would be lovely.

You're ahorr like me.

What about a shirt dress with nude tights and whatever show you fancy. Shirt dresses can be dressed as up or down as your like x

With jeans you can always do a low boot. How are you on heels?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/06/2019 20:16

What sort of shoes do you like?

Morgan · 16/06/2019 20:16

Last night I did white jeans , low ankle boots , emerald green top and leather jacket as it was chucking it down .

MoltonSilver · 16/06/2019 20:18

Too cold for sandals, wrong season for boots. You need shoes. No tights, a touch of fake tan on the legs.

Or a jumpsuit? One with sleeves plus bare ankles - easier to cope with than a skirt and bare legs!

Personally I'd wear nice jeans, black or indigo, a pair of heeled ankle boots or sandals and a good top, a nice blouse or a sleeveless shell top and jacket. I was out Friday for dinner and wore black skinnies, mid heeled suede boots, and a chiffon blouse with a cami underneath for modesty.

Very few places unless going really high end have people really dressed up now in dresses and the like.

I’ve been out to dinner today. I wore ankle-skimming wide leg paper bag trousers, closed-toe sandals, a nice sleeveless blouse and a cropped cardigan

Lots of good suggestions here. I'm hoping to get a chance for some shopping first so I have some idea what to look for.
I have wide feet and a dodgy ankle so wedges or a blocky heel is better.

There are some nice loafers and those slider type shoes in the shops at the moment

I would also do jeans and a blouse. It's perfect jeans weather

If you want to feel summery, a flat strappy sandal would be fine. But the good news is that block heels are everywhere, so the worlds your oyster. Even something very straightforward like this would look great with killer jeans a kimono top:

(I always think ankle straps can be a bit iffy on shorter legs. There are a few great ones, but my quite petite friend hates most of the ones she tries on as she says it cuts her leg even shorter.)
