does anyone just cut a little bit off their hair every now and then?

I am growing out my hair, and also trying to start to transition to grey, so I am considering saving the £80 I spent at the hair dresser every 2 months, until my grey line needs something serious.

This evening I just trimmed some straggly bits off the bottom of my hair and it looks a million times better. How long will this work for? I do have track record for cutting my own hair, and also my kids, so I am very over confident about it

Yep, except I get Dd17 to do it.

IWantMyHatBack · 15/06/2019 21:11

Yep, all the time

hugoagogo · 15/06/2019 21:12

Yep I snipped a bit off this morning.
Always faffing.

LightOfAThousandStars · 15/06/2019 22:12

Yes look up the unicorn cut as well if you want a layered style. I love it because I can control how much to take off myself.

itsboiledeggsagain · 15/06/2019 22:26

Oh yes the mumsnet haircuts. I forgot about them. I am very enamoured with the idea of a weekly little tease...

If anyone finds a good tutorial in fringe cutting I'd be glad to know it!

RiversDisguise · 15/06/2019 22:32

I do but I fuck up my fringe about 30% of the time

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 15/06/2019 22:32

I do my fringe.

You need sharp scissors, I use nail scissors and you take little cuts into the hair, not across.
Start at the middle, go left then right.

DontCallMeShitley · 15/06/2019 22:39

I cut my hair, I know how much I want to cut off.

I have some of those crea clip things but usually forget to use them and just trim it.

I am forever snipping random bits off the front when they get in the way too.

Plump82 · 15/06/2019 22:55

I cut more than just a little bit. The other day i took a good 3 inches off. My partner checked to make sure the back was even.

dudsville · 15/06/2019 22:56

I have hair dresser scissors. I've watched videos. My fringe is the only thing I'm not happy with.

nellyitsme · 15/06/2019 23:02

Can I do this with thick wavy curly kinky hair - or not?

IWantMyHatBack · 15/06/2019 23:15

Easier with curly hair, I reckon. Hides any little mistakes. B

benevolentassassin · 16/06/2019 00:02

I do this all the time - just off the bottom when it looks thin or straggly. It helps that I have wavy hair that never stays straight so it hides any slightly uneven bits.

shitpark · 16/06/2019 01:00

I do, I have wavy hair, some of it hangs in ringlets. I just cut the ends off every so often

Chimchar · 16/06/2019 01:07

I cut my fringe with hair clippers. It's super easy....much easier than with scissors.

I do this every few weeks! I never go to the hairdresser.

itsboiledeggsagain · 16/06/2019 07:14

Thanks for the snipping technique!

Any ideas about layers?
