Need a dress for a wedding, what do you think to these?

I'm 40yo, 5,3", size 14. Church wedding followed by posh hotel reception. Some of the stuff I've seen people wear as wedding guests recently looks more like clubbing wear, I don't want any bodycon type stuff! Grin

These are some ive seen so far which I like.

monsoon

phase eight.

debenhams

The last one would be easier for accessories I guess. I'd like some sort of hat/fascinator and not seen any in the right shade of green for the first two.

Any other suggestions very welcome btw.

Of those three I like the last one too. It's more versatile with colours for accessories.

HappyDinosaur · 13/06/2019 16:33

I like the first one best, it looks fresh and classy and is much more interesting in style than the others. You could easily accessorize with gold, silver or nude accessories, I wouldn't try to colour match as it would be too much. The last one is ok, but I'm not a fan of people in black at a wedding (just personal feeling, nothing wrong with it). I don't like the second one at all, the colour just doesn't seem quite right to me.

Tartyflette · 13/06/2019 16:40

I think the first one is a bit frumpy and the couleurs look sludgy. I like the second, it will definitely suit a redhead or brunette (not sure about a blonde). The third one is not bad, quite dressy and you'd probably get a lot of wear out of it.

Teddybear45 · 13/06/2019 16:43

I think the first one looks the most expensive and classiest. It also has the most wear because the patterns on the monochrome and the bright colours in the second one are basically just this season.

BiscuitDrama · 13/06/2019 16:46

They are all so different! What sort of colouring do you have?

cliffdiver · 13/06/2019 16:47

They're all lovely but the second one is the one that looks most appropriate for a summer wedding.

The first looks like office winter-wear and the third isn't summery enough imo.

Tartyflette · 13/06/2019 16:48

couleurs? Ooh la la and zut alors. (deffo not French)
This one, in the sale? says it's pale blue, looks more like pale lilac on my tablet.

This one is in the sale too, and I think it would be very suitable for a wedding.

I tried on the last one today and it is lovely. I'm between a 16 and 14 and ordered the 16. It was far too big but it felt nice to wear and was a flattering shape. I'll have to try the 14 this weekend. I tried the phase 8 one a couple of weeks ago. It felt quite cheap and the fit was not forgiving at all - all lumps and bumps were displayed due to thin fabric.

melissasummerfield · 13/06/2019 17:01

I really like the first one, but might be a bit autumnal for a summer wedding?

AnthonyCrowley · 13/06/2019 17:29

I'm brunette, quite pale.

happytobemrsg · 13/06/2019 17:46

I love the first one!

AnthonyCrowley · 13/06/2019 17:51

Agh, lost a lengthy reply.

I'm worried the sleeve length of the first one won't be good if it's a hot day.

I agree that black and white isn't very weddingy.

Disappointed to hear the phase eight one shows off all the lumps and bumps.

I don't think pale colours suit me so that rules out the blue one Tartyflette linked to. Like the spotty one but not sure of colour. I think I also prefer non high neck lines as I'm a dd cup size.

Realise the phase eight one ive linked to is also a high neck line.

I quite like this as well. Not sure what the neck line will look like on.

I will be back from two weeks in the Caribbean so even though I'm pale I am hoping I will have a tan by the wedding.

I like the first two. The second one is probably best for a summer wedding. I’m personally not a fan of the geometric print on the third.

Expressedways · 13/06/2019 17:55

And do you need headwear? I’ve barely seen a fascinator at the weddings I’ve been to recently (mostly church followed by hotel ballroom affairs).

Swishyswash · 13/06/2019 17:58

The orange one is lovely, I'd go with that one!

FrankT · 13/06/2019 17:59

I love the first one! Other two are a bit meh.
I hate fascinators but if you had to you could go for plain nude and it would work.

dudsville · 13/06/2019 18:00

I like them all, but mostly I agree with you about the clubbing wear comment!

Mishappening · 13/06/2019 18:03

If you are 5'3" I think all those hectic large patterns will not look good.

AppleDump · 13/06/2019 18:07

The second one is lovely especially with the red shoes.

Equally the orange one would look nice for a wedding. I think I like that best.

Artesia · 13/06/2019 18:32

I’ve tried the phase 8 one on too- colours were lovely but the neckline/arm bot wasn’t very forgiving. I am a size 10, but found the cut around the arms made me look like a shot putter.

sue51 · 13/06/2019 18:55

I like the monsoon one, the other were nice but a bit ordinary.

AnthonyCrowley · 13/06/2019 19:53

Oh dear. I've ordered the phase eight one to see what it looks like on but I lift weights so tend to look like a shot putter at the best of times.

If I don't like it think I will order both monsoon dresses to see which I like best.
