If you use The Ordinary salicylic or hyaluronic acid...

When do you use it and what do you find it does?

Got prescribed salicylic acid back in 1994 for a flakey scalp. Still use the same tub when it flares up. Tends to be in the summer and my scalp burns and it peels.

Thanks for the reply. I have quite oily skin with large pores, sebaceous filaments and whiteheads-I keep reading about both of these products but am not sure which would be any good for me and when I would use it!

Would love to hear from anyone who uses The Ordinary?!

My daughter uses the hyaluronic acid. She's 20 and has oily skin with pore problems and her skin looks glowing now. I can visibly see the difference in it since she's started using it. I'm thinking of buying a bottle myself.

fedup21 · 13/06/2019 16:03

Ooh, that sounds promising! Thank you.

I’ve just found another one that looks good-Niacinamide.

I’m hoping someone on here has used all of them and knows the difference between them!

I love The Ordinary. It's done wonders for my shit skin (rosacea).

I use:
Morning;

  • Niacinamide
  • Alpha Arbutin & Hyaluronic Acid
  • Magnesium something or other cream

Evening;

  • Niacinamide
  • Hyaluronic Acid
  • Rose Hip Oil
  • Azelaic Acid Cream
Daffodil2018 · 13/06/2019 16:15

I've used their hyaluronic acid serum and it's pretty good. I've actually had better results with the cheapo Superdrug serum that Sali Hughes always recommends, which contains HA anyway.

Fatkins · 13/06/2019 16:18

So the niacinamide (I believe) is anti blemish, the alpha Arbutin and the magnesium-whatever lightens skin where there is too much pigmentation (like my rosacea), the hyaluronic acid helps your skin absorb moisture better (I think). The rosehip oil is moisturising and the azelaic acid... Actually, I don't know what it's meant to do 😂. However, I was once prescribed it for rosacea when I had a terrible flare up but couldn't have antibiotics as I was bfing. So I assume it's meant to work!

  • I am definitely not an expert!
NerdyBird · 13/06/2019 16:19

The Niacinamide has been good for me. I'm also using Azaleic acid now and that seems ok too.

fedup21 · 13/06/2019 16:20

@fatkins that is really helpful, thank you!

Do you put the niacinamide on all over or just on the spots?

OP posts:
Fatkins · 13/06/2019 16:42

No worries! I hope I'm not talking TOTAL rubbish!

I put two or three drops of it into the palm of my hand and rub them together than put all over my visage. Same with all the other pipette-y things. I go very easy on the rosehip oil as too much oil makes me break out.

Veterinari · 13/06/2019 16:45

Salicylic acid is good for oily skin and clearing pores
The niacinamide and zinc is good for overall skin texture

Fluffycloudland77 · 13/06/2019 17:08

I’ve used both, my skin didn’t like either.

The only thing I’d buy again is the caffeine serum.

fedup21 · 13/06/2019 19:37

@Fluffycloudland77 what impact did that have on your skin?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 13/06/2019 20:11

The hylauronic gave me spots, the salicylic just stripped my skin 🤷🏻‍♀️.

fedup21 · 13/06/2019 20:16

@Fluffycloudland77
Sorry, I wasn’t very clear-I meant the caffeine serum that you liked. What did it actually do?

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 13/06/2019 20:42

Oh sorry, it tightens the eye area and makes me look more awake. I have dark circles but they’ve been there since I was 4 so nothing cosmetics going to shift them.

fedup21 · 13/06/2019 21:07

Ooh, I like the idea of looking more awake!!

Betty777 · 13/06/2019 21:36

yep I use the HA - every morning under my moisturiser.

I also have pores, oiliness. Have to say it works pretty well for me

Ukelou · 14/06/2019 02:15

If you go on the ordinary website they give loads of advice of when what and how to use their products. I found th site a faff at first but once I worked out where all the info was it was helpful

justilou1 · 14/06/2019 02:48

I use the Ordinary products on my skin and I love them!
AM:
Cerave foaming cleanser or Bioderma if rushed
Ordinary H.A. Serum (love it!)
3-4 drops Rosehip Oil
Moisturiser (Currently Cerave)
Sunscreen
PM: Oil cleanser to break up makeup, followed by foaming cleanser
Ordinary glycolic toner
H.A. Serum
Rosehip Oil
Moisturiser

My pores are the best they’ve been for years!!!! The niacinamide in the HA serum seems to help with that. (Also in Cerave moisturiser.)
