4160 Tuesdays

I've just received a sample pack from 4160 Tuesdays after hearing good things about their perfumes. I was so excited to receive my samples after choosing carefully from their descriptions, however I really don't like any of them. Really disappointed as I was really hoping to find my new scent. There is something in them that I don't seem to like at all, and unfortunately I don't know what that is.

I've seen lots of mumsnetters love their scents and appreciate that I've only tried 7 but I thought I'd really like at least one. I like the fact that it's a small company too and loved the handwritten note that came with the package, but seems like they're just not for me. Anyone else had the same experience?

Fenella- Rhubarb and Citrus is a bit citrussy, but a lot more rhubarby which if you're not careful does honk of the "cat's pee" that seems to be used a lot as a phrase to diss perfumes! Lemon Sherbert is also a bit lemony, but it's sweet again.

If you're after straight up citrus you want Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien, or if a bit more zingy lime then Eau du Sud, Chanel Cristalle, Yardley Jade (yes, seriously!) Liz Earle n1 etc. Actually, I have just sploshed Boots own brand lemon eau de cologne all over me (I am in 35 degree Italy) and for about £6 it's hard to knock. (and I believe iirc I owe it to MissBattleaxe's blog for that little gem!)

I'm trying to remember now the 4160 that made me shriek and run for the carbolic soap. I have a feeling it might have been Lady Rose Lion.

Snap piam!

TheCanterburyWhales Thanks for the shout out! Wine

@TheCanterburyWhales @MissBattleaxe The boots lemon one sounds awesome, I might have to get it. Google is coming up empty handed though - I do t suppose you could send me the link to order?

Iambuffy · 18/06/2019 07:35

Hmmm....boots lemon you say?

MissBattleaxe · 18/06/2019 07:57

Actually, it was M&S and here's the link to my review. All part of the service from your friendly Mumsnetter perfume blogger!

PS The one you mean is the Monotheme from M&S

Interesting Luca Turin blog on the 4160T house style and work rate.

TheCanterburyWhales · 18/06/2019 12:55

No, the one I mean is definitely Boots. Hang on.

It must have been another perfume blogger who recommended it!

TheCanterburyWhales · 18/06/2019 13:01

I remember reading that blogpost from LT
IIRC the owner of 4160 used to work for Lush hence many similarities in "quirkiness" etc.

The Boots cologne is hard to find in the stores- it's on the bottom shelves and not near perfumes. I got mine from one of the Oxford st ones and it took me hours to find. But hey, for just over £4 who cares. It doesn't last (obvs, it's a cologne) but you get 400ml of the stuff.

Featherstep · 18/06/2019 14:09

I had a similar experience with a bunch of samples I got DH to get me for Christmas.
I didn't love any of them and actively recoiled from one.
I've tentatively concluded that they don't do 'fresh' - all the ones I tried had sweet notes that were too cloying for me. Probably will retry in the colder months, but definitely not reaching for them in warm weather.
I agree with a PP that you may like Hermes

Interesting PIAM - have an idea that Sarah Mc wrote copy rather than worked with the Constantines on perfume production? MissB may know more? I like her analogy with Serge Lutens - exactly how I feel.

MissBattleaxe · 18/06/2019 20:50

Yes Sarah was the editor of the Lush Times, so although she worked with the Constantines she didn't make products.
