Can I get a wedding dress at size 18 in 4 months?

We've just booked our wedding and I only have 4 months until the big day! I am a size 18 and feel so self conscious about all eyes being on me as I am 46 years old and obviously overweight. Do any of you have any advice about where I can look for a plus size dress at my size? And also what style(s) might be the best for me? I am 5 foot 4, curvy. I don't like my stomach or arms very much. Ideally I would like to wear white, cream or champagne. I don't know where to start so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am so looking forward to getting married and want to enjoy my day so if I could look nice that would mean the world. Thank you so much in advance.

Do you have a wed 2 be shop near you? You buy the dress you try on and can take it away the same day. You might need to find someone do do alterations elsewhere but they usually have a decent range of styles to try on in lots of sizes. Try on styles you might not think are your style just in case it really suits you.

Hi Banhaha. I just checked and there is one near me! So I'll definitely check them out. Thank you!

I had a 50s style dress hand made for me. Took less than 4 months. Was knee length. I loved it. Dress maker made a big tulle underskirt for it too. Cost a couple of hundred quid looked extortionate!

That sounds gorgeous! I don't think I would suit a shorter dress though. But maybe I could get one made. Because I have no idea what would suit me yet I probably need to try a few on first.

Curvy brides boutique?

I got my wedding dress from an independent wedding boutique with 3 weeks to go to my wedding, and had loads of alterations (I'm basically a borrower and needed about 10ft taking up!). Picked it up the day before my wedding. No problem.

Try Curvissa wedding dresses.

Plenty of high Street stores have wedding collections, just then take to a local dressmaker for minor alterations, same for off the shelf dresses. Normally you do go up a size for wedding dresses

Yes yes yes wed2b. Because they sell from stock rather than ordering in, they have a proper range of sizes in. I found it incredibly helpful to be trying on the dress I'd actually wear rather than the dress I would have been wearing if I was capable of saying no to cake. Plus the lady who helped me really knew what she was doing and gently steered me through my terrible choices to something that looked fantastic on.

Thanks everyone! I'lll definitely be checking out Wed2be as they have a store near me and will go from there. You've all given me hope Smile

You are going to need to get one off the peg rather than ordered in especially as they can take 4-6 months. You can then get someone to fit it for you. My friend just bought an off the peg size 24 from a night street bridal shop so it’s worth shopping round.

If you're anywhere near N Yorks there's a brilliant plus - size bridal shop in Boroughbridge; I went there when a friend of mine was hunting for her perfect dress and they had a great range and were lovely!

If your based in Kent try Victoria grace bridal in FAversham I was plus sized and they made me feel beautiful and showed me what suited

Newmumma83 · 11/06/2019 06:14

Dresses were from £495

David’s Bridal usually have a section that are available to buy or order at short notice - sure I got mine in 3 weeks and I was a size 18/ 20. Local tailor for alterations. (And it was only about £500).

Or have a look at Monsoon - normally have a decent collection.
