Primer - is it worth it?

Hi, I've been thinking of trying primer under my foundation to see if it helps it stay on a bit longer. Does it actually work? Or is it just a gimmick to make us spend more money? Have you got any recommendations? I don't mind spending a bit if it actually does something!

@Lilac3 oh dear.. perhaps I'll give it a month and see how I get on. Don't want to make it worse!

YSL one is amazing.
I find that I need to let primer set fully before I apply foundation, so I put it on fresh out the shower, potter about before putting makeup on. Otherwise it looks like I've applied glue to my face and my foundation ends up cakey or swirly

Benefit Porefessional is an amazing primer. I don’t have large pores, but it makes my foundation look very professionally applied. Someone generally asks what new make up I am wearing when I wear it. I bought a small tube for £11 from Boots before I bought the full size one. I have bought it again and again.

The Benefit one doesn’t feel at all moist when it goes on so no drying time at all to factor in. Foundation goes on immediately.

I also like the porefessional (blue tube not the pearly pink one) but just bought myself the new Becca one, think it’s called Skin Love and it’s lovely. More like a lotion than the benefit one, smoothing and also has a nice light scent. Makeup sits really smoothly on top.
I do my skincare after my shower but leave it a few minutes between each step to allow everything to sink in. Once the primer is on, I try to leave it a good 20 minutes before doing anything else but I often don’t have the time!

Agreeing with those who have recommended no 7 airbrush away.

I've never got on with primer. Then I tried the Charlotte Tilbury wonder glow. Oh my god. It's like silk, dewey silk and is lush. Trouble is if I put my foundation on without it, my makeup feels shit now. At nearly 49 quid a bottle it's an expensive addition to my routine!

Typo. £40

UnderPompeii does the Max Factor one only come in 3ml? That doesn’t seem much product for £8.20.

Only asking as I’m interested too. Another poster up thread said her makes ONLY last until 4:00pm. If only. Mines disappeared by 10.00am. Actually I think I’m wasting my time using face make up. It’s only visible for about an hour.

@KooMoo, the PP said her makeup only used to last until 4pm, now lasts until bedtime!
