So, what has been 'IN' this summer in the UK?

It won't be that long before the summer stock is in the shops here in Australia. For once I would like to be in the forefront ... instead of getting stuff 2 years too late when it is going out again.
So, what has been in for the summer?
Skirts? Dresses? Minis? Leggings? Skinnies? Floaty tops over jeans? WHAT???

Those style conscious MNers please share ...

TIA xxx

PS am an easyish shape to work with - size 10ish but can't be doing with very low rise trousers that show bum cracks. I thank you.

cropped jeans, cropped trousers, smocks, long tunics worn as a dress or over trousers. Short and very full smocky jackets with enormous buttons. Knee-length skirts, very full like 50s style but shorter. T-shirt dress that clings all over, just on the knee. Leggings that come to halfway down your calf, paired with a long tunic. Bright colours, pink, turquoise, jade green, yellow. Black and white still very trendy. Flip-flops with sequins and jewels. Crocs in bright colours. Elaborate bead necklaces short or long. Layers.

SueW ... your Oxford Street Summer Lot look no different to the Melbourne Chapel Street Winter Lot ... pmsl

I just can't do skinnies ... I have tried, I have good legs but I don't think they look good on anyone except Kate Moss ... sorry if you wear them.

Melbourne will be too hot for any kind of jeans in the height of summer ... too hot for leggings and tights too I imagine ... but maybe not.
Have good cropped jeans already if necessary ... so will just need to up my 'tunic' situation, possibly some mid calf leggings ... Can do the knee length skirts, yes, will try for a couple of those and a couple of dresses.

Put that with my mum's Kaftan and my grandad's flat cap, seems I'll be sorted

"T-shirt dresses that cling all over" - Um ... no, can't do that ... eewww ...

Gryff, Aus does Summer fashion quite differently to the UK anyway, and often better. We haven't even had a Summer here anyway, so hard to know what the real fashions would have been if we had!

What are 'boyfriend' jeans?

Hideehi · 23/07/2007 22:51

boyfriend jeans create the arse crack on display too i found.
I really miss Melbourne, although i only ever shopped in country road, twas old before my time

eidsvold · 23/07/2007 22:52

smocky jackets just make me look pregnant with my dangly post c-section belly

think I will need to go a few maxi dresses with wedges, stick with my crop trousers - jeans too hot. Maybe some of the wide leg linen trousers.

Or whatever is reasonably priced and very durable!

oh and the crocs are fab for the beach and the kindy/school run.

eidsvold · 23/07/2007 22:56

tights in the middle of summer in brisbane is the colour my face would be before I keeled over in the heat

As I was picking over the remains of stock in the Target toy sale this morning I noticed they'd got their new summer stock in - about a gazillion maxi dresses, closely followed by racks of pucci print tunic tops.

Lots of big buttons still. No high waisted trousers tho.

So looks like it's Maxi dresses all round.

sibble · 24/07/2007 05:48

hey ghosty when you've finsihed with your maxi dresses now you are a fashionista, send them over, by the time they get here they might be in fashion

eidsvold · 24/07/2007 07:31

did not even glance around when I was in target today - went off to get dd1's birthday presents. I want to get them out and play with them .

don't think I am destined to be a fashionista.

sugarmatches · 24/07/2007 10:16

I have been living in my ballet flats and leggings. My 6 yo dd wears them as well.
Wedges are a must as well and topshop are doing brill Chloe knock-offs!
Basically, any top or dress that looks like it is from the maternity section is hot this summer.
As far as bags, I have been using my bag for life from Tesco and everyone tells me they love it (ladybirds, you see)!! Strange, but I think eco friendly bags are "in" right now.

sugarmatches · 24/07/2007 10:18

I have seen so many maxi dresses in the shops. Has anyone ever seen someone actually wearing one (besides in mags)??
I live in London and I have not seen it, but maybe I just need to get out more!

the good thing about the tunic style tops is that you can wear skinny-ish jeans with them as only the bottom bit is poking out!

newgirl · 24/07/2007 18:49

i have been brave enough to wear my maxi dress- in fact ibought 2 in my excitement at prospect of covering my ghastly legs and still keeping my cool!. sadly i dont think the trend has actually hit devon yet really and i did get a few odd looks. dh refuses to be seen with me in it, but then thats his reaction to alot of the clothes i love!
