Curvy girls - How to wear 'paper bag' or tailored trousers

I've tried several pairs on and just cannot seem to make them look good. I have large thighs and the trousers just stick to them, making them look awful. Starting to think I have no hope unless I suddenly become tall and slim overnight.

I am tall and slim, and they look horrendous on me too. I think unless you're a 5'10 size 4 as the models seem to be, you're doomed to a life of bootlegs, skinnies and crops. Leave the paper bag trend to tucker itself out and find something which looks fabulous on you! Smile

I’m an hourglass (size 12) and I love mine! Black paper bags with flats and a jumper or heels and a cami top

Gamorasgran · 29/05/2019 17:44

I am short and fat and love them too - they seem to work well over my post c section tummy. I am a pear/hourglass and they make me look curvy and small waisted.

I am pretty sure my arse looks vast mind but i can't see it....

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/05/2019 17:45

I've never heard of these, can someone link to a pair please?

Whackitupto200 · 29/05/2019 17:47

I think they look good on curvy people - you need a good arse to counterbalance all the detail at the front.

I’m medium height and a size 8/10 and I look absolutely dreadful in them. I have no arse so they look shapeless and saggy at the back (a bit like my actual arse).

dudsville · 29/05/2019 17:48

I had to Google "Paper bag trousers". This it's another 80s reboot, air? You aren't missing anything.

Cfuni · 29/05/2019 17:50

I'm just a bit sick of skinny jeans, not sure what else to try. Don't even find skinny jeans too flattering

OP posts:
PuppyMonkey · 29/05/2019 17:52

I’ve literally just discovered these while browsing jeans an hour ago. Shudder, they’re revolting on ANY size imho.

IHaveBrilloHair · 29/05/2019 17:56

WTF?
Will not be purchasing, they are bloody awful.

Cfuni · 29/05/2019 18:24

wow, they are quite something.

I was looking at something more like these www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0664319005.html

Icecreamcake86 · 29/05/2019 18:44

I love paperbag trousers and think they can be really flattering. Im a size 14 with a small waist and curvy hips so sizing up in this style always works for me 😉

EssentialHummus · 29/05/2019 18:46

They always look shit on me (size 12, tallish). I’ve given up on them.

managedmis · 29/05/2019 18:59

I tried some on and they just looked ridiculous

I work with a woman who had a khaki pair on and she look fab

mooncuplanding · 29/05/2019 19:03

They mostly look awful

Really unflattering

I’m size 8 and they make me look gigantic

Cfuni · 29/05/2019 19:07

Any trouser style recommendations? I'm petite and chubby, not the best combination

OP posts:
PeachMelba78 · 29/05/2019 20:23

They work well on me, they help disguise my csection belly

Icecreamcake86 · 29/05/2019 20:26

What about paperbag style cullottes? They are loose on the legs also

sonjadog · 29/05/2019 20:35

What is "paper bag" about them?

sonjadog · 29/05/2019 20:35

I haven't heard the term before.

Lumene · 29/05/2019 20:35

Have you tried wide leg linen trousers or bootleg jeans?

GraceMarks · 29/05/2019 20:40

sonjadog because the part that fits the torso has a series of pleats and gathers around the waistband, like a paper bag that's been folded closed at the top.

I think it's all in the weight of the fabric, OP. The ones you linked to from H&M are quite drapey and silky, so I think they would flatter you. Those horrors from River Island - not so much!

poopypants · 29/05/2019 20:40

They don't really look paper bag to me. More just pleat front trousers.
