toe nail fell off (in time for summer!) help me find closed toe summer shoes

Please help!

My problem is that I already have very painful, difficult feet. Boney, wide, bunions, hammer toes and bunionettes. They are also flat with narrow heels but flared like a fan towards the toes.

I managed to find good sandals from your suggestions the past 3 years so I sorted that. Now, my bloody big toe nail has come off. It's growing back but it's only half way through. I'm scared of sticking on a fake toe nail in case it comes off or hinder or damage my toe nail bed as it regrows.

I'm getting really hot in my usual work foot wear. Trainers are ok but not smart enough for work.

so I need:

  • Closed toe
  • Extra wide
  • Has some strap or lace up as my feet are narrow at the heel and tend to slip off easily
  • Age: 30s
  • Budget up to £150
  • Smart, smart casual
  • Low or flat heel
  • Arch support

Thanks a million!

I’ve found the most amazing espadrilles in H&M!! Very comfy too and for your budget you could buy 6 pairs!

Skandinaviem · 27/05/2019 21:08

Failing that check out pikolinos website
(And not picolinas like my mum did when I told her about the awesome summer shoes they do.. it took her to a porn site and she almost had a coronary!)

I lost a couple of nails last summer after running the half marathon in Edinburgh. For nights out I used falsies and day to day I wore trainers and espadrilles. They grew back pretty quickly.

TheFaerieQueene · 27/05/2019 21:12

Cover your toe with a plaster and wear your normal shoes. That is what I did when I lost toe nails from playing tennis every day. I went to balls etc like that. No problem.

Silversky70 · 27/05/2019 21:13

Just paint the nail and the skin!

scratchbass · 27/05/2019 21:13

I'd just paint the 'gap' with the same colour nail polish as the rest of my toes!

TakeMe2Insanity · 27/05/2019 21:26

My finger nail was removed in hospital and found silicone flesh coloured covers on amazon that helped it stopped getting hit etf

Viviene · 27/05/2019 21:46

I wouldn't recommend pikolinos, the soles on the shoes I had from them cracked after four month of not that much wear...

Boatsnack3 Oh Gosh I hope mine grows back quickly :( I'm more concerned about day in day out wearing falsies. I already have nice sandals but not sure about being able to wear fake toe nail daily or almost every day....

TheFaerieQueene I could but I feel because it is the big toe it will draw more attention to my feet and questions about what happened....

Silversky70 and scratchbass I will try this .. although my nail bed is not smooth there is a ridge in between. It's not just flat nail bed. I will try though.... I worry if someone looks closely like in a queue or sat at work or on the train they would notice manky toe nail Grin will see...

TakeMe2Insanity thanks, I actually feel the nail bed rub and its much softer and tender obviously, I will get some. I really don't want it to get worse :(

Viviene Oh no that doesn't sound encouraging... I've already got a couple of theirs in my virtual shopping basket hmm.... I wil see if anyone else suggests other brands or i will chance it and buy them. Really desperate for something suitable.

Thanks all

A good nail technician would be able to sculpt a new toe nail with acrylic. A good friend of mine is fab at this.

babysharkah · 27/05/2019 22:32

When I lost both big toe nails after a mammoth hike I just painted the skin.

Frusty · 27/05/2019 23:41

I don’t have big toe nails. After years of wearing covered shoes I’ve been sticking fake ones on for the past two years and it’s been a revelation. Obviously don’t do it if you think you will hurt your recovering toe. In my case I stick glue onto what’s left of my toenail and mostly onto skin. It’s rare it comes off but I keep a spare in my purse just in case!
