grrrr

I hate them ALL

they are either

Too long
Too flouncy (HOW many puffy sleeves does one need?)
Actually in fact dresses and not tops at all but pretending to be tops (and I am 40 so I am NOT wearing leggings OR mini dresses when not on holiday and they look plain stupid over jeans and anyway it's too hot for jeans most of the time)
Disgusting patterns
Horribly bright block colour
Maternity smocks
Vast ballooning batwingy things

I HATE THEM

Fashion is SHIT atm for oldies

However I do not want to go down the boden/jigsaw yummy mummy look or the dowdy m&s

Please let all this stupid toppery end soon

Was very but might investigate...

whistles not bad either. I got myself a nice top that nodded at this summer by virtue of being baggy - slightly gathered at the neck, which was rounded and low, and then gently flaring out, but looks quite classic by virtue of being brown with just a slight goldeny shimmer to it, rather than being garish or pyschodelic.

that level of puff is fine
it's the things that make you look like you have elephantitis of the shoulders I hatye

but it's very light cotton - pretty much see through, so I think the sleeves are ok

Next actually have about two decent short-sleeved work shirts this year. The rest are as you describe, though.

Mind you if you've got a mega budget check out Charles Tyrwhitt (sp!!) cos they do some gorgeous shirts but they are like forty or fifty quid a throw. New customers usually get like 50% discount on first order though.

Oh yes I like gathered
just not full on maternity

Oddly I was driving past petit bateau the tohyer day and they had some nice looking tops in the window but when I looked more closely they were maternity ones! They looked a lot less blimming maternity than most of topshop

you are a fusspot really aren't you

have you looked in a big M&S? if it's only work shirts you want, they have loads of plain shirts that aren't too hoorahrendous

Saw that my link (or lack of) didnt work. Check out the "Wishing" top on Great Plains site, has cap sleeves, row of small buttons, deep V and no frills. And £17 in sale.

big shoulders are a PITA though because you can't get away with vest tops without looking like the Incredible Hulk. I have not been too disappointed with this weather because I can get away with vest tops and cardis without having to look like I lift weights.

(most gooners I know have no taste at all)
