Philips Lumea IPL - FAQ thread for owners

There are a number of 'should I buy?' threads but I thought a 'now I've bought' thread would be handy for people to refer to. I've only just started using it but have a couple of questions/answers to the 'is this normal?' theme.

Should it have a two pin (European) plug or 3 pin UK plug if I bought it in the UK? It should be 3 pin. If it's a 2 pin plug there's been a mistake so you should take it/send it back for a swap.

Will it hurt? For me 5 is too 'zappy' and I can only cope with 4 but others may be along to say 5 is fine for them. But it's 'normal' to not use the full strength, that's why there are multiple settings because everyone is different!

All others Qs & As for newbie owners/long time users welcome!

Can you use hair removal cream (on face) before hand ?

TheFlis12345 · 19/07/2019 18:18

Yes you can, but like waxing, you need to then leave it a few days as Lumea works off the hair root in the follicle.

Thanks

My friend and I bought one between us to save the cost Smile.

I used it for the first time this week on my under arms and legs.

Really want to do my bikini line but not sure I can face shaving it first as I get terrible stubble rash/spots. Does anyone know how to avoid it? Can't be bothered to go and have a wax or attempt it myself so think I'll have to shave??

Sarah I have the same issue but I went ahead - shaved, used the Lumea, then put on savlon, then kept the area dry with talc for a few days, no bumps! I think zapping it partly prevented the normal rash too. Also go knickerless when possible to avoid the elastic rubbing!

Will be so happy when that's all gone.

I have PCOS and as a result I have hairs which grow on my chin and jaw. I have been shaving and I’m getting lots of spots as a result so have bought a Lumea and have just started today. Hoping to see results in next few months, I’m pale with dark hair so that’s a bonus. I plan to use it twice a week, is that acceptable?
