Please help me to find a full length dusty blue bridesmaids dress, preferably Jersey!

Hi all!

I am.thrilled to have been asked to be a bridesmaid for a good friend's wedding overseas.

She has asked all the bridesmaids to pick their own dresses as we are scattered all over the place and a mix of shapes and sizes. I can spend £150 max but ideally rather less if possible due to costs of travel etc. Please help me!!!

The specs are dusty blue(I will try and add a pic), full length, any plain fabric and any neckline except strapless, spaghetti straps or anything too plunging.

I am quite overweight at the minute due to medication (5'6" and a 16-18) but at the gym and eating healthily so would hope to be a bit slimmer for the wedding in August but the meds make this hard so cant guarantee.

I have a hard figure to dress, even when slim. It's somewhere between athletic and hourglass (now with the extra weight) and i look best in fitted dresses that stretch to fit my funny proportions.

I would ideally like a full length dress in a good heavy Jersey, fitted all over, wide scoop or boat neck, maybe a bit low at the back, short to 3/4 sleeves and a bit of detail such as ruching on the front.

I dont want anything floaty which will add volume and would be happy with quite a plain dress as we will carry flowers and I have quite nice long, thick hair which I'll be able to wear down in a nice style.

I'd be so grateful for any ideas. Everything seems either too short or frilly. I will post if I see anything I like but havent seen anything as yet.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks v much Palavah that's really nice and a good price. I was looking for longer sleeves tbh as my arms aren't great but I will have a look at what else phase 8 have Smile

You could wear it with a little cover up, I'm sure bride wouldn't mind. My bridesmaids had 3/4 sleeve short cardigans.

Good call Brie (and loving the cheesy name!). It would be a bit warm for anything too substantial but I will see if there's anything light

Your size is sold out but lots of places stock phase eight.

Thanks everyone for some lovely suggestions. The phase 8 'winnie' style is lovely but unfortunately sold out wherever I have looked online in my size. I like the Ghost ones and see they can be dyed but was hoping for some stretch really.

I suppose this pic shows very roughly the style I would like although this is only a cheap and cheerful casual dress. Apologies, it's completely the wrong colour, not great quality and shows a bit much leg. I was hoping for a much nicer version of this in better fabric (and the right colour but I could maybe dye a light coloured one if the fabric was right)

I've always been deeply suspicious of one shoulder dresses but I must say that one is stunning. Just think, you only have to fake tan one arm :)

Bigfanofcheese · 20/05/2019 08:42

Noodle that's gorgeous!! Sadly I think the patterned lace would be a bit out of keeping but it is nice

Just a thought OP- jersey doesn't tend to be the most flattering of materials as it usually shows all your 'lumps and bumps'. You may find that something in chiffon which skims over your body, makes you feel much more confident.

Bigfanofcheese · 20/05/2019 08:49

Haha Morris think of the savings in fake tan!

Yes, I really like the one shoulder phase 8 style. I was almost tempted to buy it in a 12 which is the biggest available (my normal size before the meds was a 10/12) and go hard at the gym/ diet but it's hard to predict how much I will be able to lose and 3 dress sizes is a quite a bit in 3 months plus I have a lot on elsewhere.

What about the multi-way bridesmaid dress? The kimono style would cover your arms and it doesn’t matter if you lose or gain weight between the wedding and now. It is also jersey and comes in a range of colours. Think Monsoon, Coast and Debenhams stock them.

Bigfanofcheese · 20/05/2019 09:00

Scarus wow!! You're awesome! I had a look and it didnt come up, must've been half asleep last night! I'll just check the sizing in case it comes up small but that one is a real possibility.

Pinky you do have a point, I would definitely want a quality fabric and spanx for a day with photos to avoid every single lump being shown, especially in a lightish colour. Trouble is I've got quite a proportionate bust, waist and hips but a weirdly big rib cage and broad shoulders, smallish though wobbly waistline and a big bum (prob my best feature in fitted styles but soon makes anything else look like a lampshade) so anything that skims or floats just makes me look blocky as it covers any definition if that makes sense.

Sounds good Lego I will have a look!

JJs house seem to do many of their styles in a range of colours so if the blue lace suits colour wise maybe look at other styles and adjust the colour
