Fancy shoe advice needed for someone who just doesn't *do* shoes, ta!

OK, I throw myself on your tender mercy, thanks so much.

I usually wear Dms or Converse, and just don't do sparkly girl type shoes, but for the sake of looking acceptable at a huge family wedding I've given in

I'm probably wearing this dress (it actually looks ok, and surprisingly I don't feel like a man in drag when I wear it) but I'm not sure what shoes to get

I have the following 'issues' to consider

  • I have to get a pair that will also go with a black dress that I'm wearing to a big party the week before (I'm not buying two pairs of shoes that I will hardly ever wear)

  • I'm tall so can't wear really high heels (also I'm overweight so high=pain)

  • I'm a size 9 (so don't expect anyone to actually find 'the shoes' I'll be happy with advice on what to look for tbh)

  • I'm going to be wearing them for about 12/13 hours, and chasing a 3 year old mini demon/bridesmaid around for most of that time

I'd appreciate any advice or help 'cos I am honestly really cack at this girl stuff

Apologies if I don't answer any replies straight away - have to go out for a bit.

TIA

you need kitten heels in pewter

am on the case

can you do pointy?
how's the budget?

mazzystar · 19/07/2007 11:46

v nice dress

i think silver or pewter coloured sandals.

i don't really like coloured shoes with black so a neutral metallic

will go and look -

Hathor · 19/07/2007 11:47

The dress is gorgeous. Good luck with the shoes.

this sort of thing in gunmetal maybe

serenity · 19/07/2007 11:50

Budget is negotiable, but I tend to get cold sweats spending anything over about £20 on myself so showing me something over about £50ish will probably kill me.

Can probably do pointy in a 9 (I can just about get away with an 8 in my DMs, but not with heels/pointy) My concern with pointy is more that I have big feet, and wouldn't they just look worse with something that elongates them?

lovely dress serenity. very sophisticated.
agree pewter shoes would be lovely and would go well with a black dress if you have a few silvery accessories.

maybe

bundle · 19/07/2007 11:51

i've just bought these from office (but in a tomatoey orangey red) - the ankle strap can be removed and they're made of VERY squishy leather, and they're incredibly comfortable. they were £35 in the sale. i think a little wedge is better than a heel.

MrsBadger · 19/07/2007 11:54

this kind of thing but they only go up to a 7.5 grr

atill looking

cremolafoam · 19/07/2007 11:55

on ebay just now

serenity · 19/07/2007 11:55

The dress is nice, thanks It makes me nervous though as I generally wear black, black and occasionally a dash of black. My sister made me get it and she was right as usual.

Shoes so far are all good ideas, but all too small I need a 9/43

List of suppliers doing larger sizes here www.tallclub.co.uk/suppliers/index.asp#womensfootwear
Not got time to look. Sorry.

cremolafoam · 19/07/2007 12:13

check in Evans too as they do larger shoes and have a sale on.

MrsBadger · 19/07/2007 12:39

aha
and they go up to a 43
(hope the link works as Next is a bit odd atm)

JackieNo · 19/07/2007 12:44

Good call on Evans - not 100% convinced about the style (also - is that too high for you?).

JackieNo · 19/07/2007 12:45

Bit of a bargain?

JackieNo · 19/07/2007 12:47

Wedge sandals?

bossykate · 19/07/2007 12:50

think those pewter wedge sandals would go brilliantly with that lovely dress.

serenity · 19/07/2007 14:30

Jackie you're a star! They're just right, I'll have to go and check my local branch, or I might just order them online.

Thanks to everyone else for looking too

OP posts:
JackieNo · 19/07/2007 14:39

Hope they work. Evans shoes are made for wide feet, so if you're ordering online, you might want to order the 8 and the 9, as I've found I can go down a size in them.

serenity · 19/07/2007 14:45

Hmm, I might do that. I have a problem with Viva la Diva shoes in that respect. I bought a lovely pair of boots from them that were great in that my toes weren't rammed against the end, but I have to wear thick socks because the width is ridiculous. I just don't want to have my toes hanging over the end!

OP posts:
bundle · 19/07/2007 14:46

i think duo do 43 in their boots (not their shoes though)

JackieNo · 19/07/2007 14:46

You're right - that's not a good look.
