Period pants and swimwear

Poor dd3 who is 12 has just started her periods. Her older sisters are very supportive as am I but basically it just sucks doesn't it? Getting used to which towels at which point etc.
This morning poor lamb had leaked on pants, pjs and sheet and was really fed up, I think we can manage that better with pads etc but I was also looking at ads for the pants and swim wear and thinking that might help her feel more secure at school and obviously enable swimming which she loves but there's no way she'll cope with tampons atm.

So what's good? Any recommendations gratefully received!

I got my daughter the leak proof pants off Amazon (several brands) that have a plastic liner in between two layers of fabric. They look like normal panties on the outside. She uses them with a pad as extra security if she should leak. They are not to be used on their own (a couple of the descriptions seem to suggest that but don’t see how unless you bring 10 pairs and change constantly). Anyway she’s had two bad leaks at school but none since we got these. Of course she is also getting better and changing her pad more regularly and not just at break time. At night she may have the occasional leak but so might I!
Not sure about swimming - are there swimsuits that do the same? Cold water would inhibit flow and my daughter has risked it by going straight to change as soon as she got out of the water.

Thanks yes there are swim suits along the same li e but I'm just dubious if they actually work.

Is she allowed to wear ‘home’ swimming stuff or does she have to wear a set swimming costume?

I’ve read on other threads that posters and their DD’s do just wear the pants on their own without pads, they’re apparently really absorbent and hold a lot, like fine to wear all day.

Personally I wouldn’t brave that all day, but I’d give them a go under swimming shorts. But I’d buy specific swimming ones or I’m guessing it might end up being like wearing a normal nappy rather than swim one.

Periods are ridiculous things. One every month for umpteen years so we can have kids. There has to be a better body design.🙄🙄🙄
