Can anybody suggest a perfect haircut for me?

It is currently medium length and I just ponytail it all the time.
I want something shorter for the summer - ideally off my neck but not short on top as I hate the growing out stage. I hate inverted bobs (apologies to anyone who has one - they're just not me.)
Must be casual, I'm no glamour puss!
And I don't want to have to faff with it in the mornings.
Any ideas? I would be grateful

"Knitting-friendly places with wooden toys for toddlers and walls decorated with lentils"

YES! Why on earth are there not places like this?

You need to find another hairdresser I think.

What are you knitting?

TooTicky · 19/07/2007 18:17

I will be knitting a Dennis the Menace jumper for ds1. I have just finished crocheting clothes for dd2's little monkey.

Yes, a nice new hairdresser would be good. A friendly, non-intimidating, unshiny one.

what about a nice shampoo n set

Filchymindedvixen · 19/07/2007 18:30

I am going tomorrow to the lovely lady mum (the same age as me) at the salon at the top of the road. We will chat about dyslexia and school hols. I will tentatively ask for my hair to be cut in a choppier style, or a bit wispier. She will beam and nod and I will leave with exactly the same haircut she always gives me. Long layers. Yawn. Ho hum.

TooTicky · 19/07/2007 20:39

fmv. But does it fill you with foreboding and dread?

Gawd I love going to the hairdressers and I love all the sophisticated pretentious nonsense

love watching all the trendy people

and I ALWAYS ask for long layers (I have funny kinky hair and it does NOT take kindly to any other style, believe me I have tried) and they ALWAYS try to sneak in something different that I didn't ask for

Tatties · 19/07/2007 22:06

I like it but always have a moment near the end where my stomach is lurching because I don't think I like it but I'm too scared to say anything. Always turns out ok though. I leave ds with dp and see it as a rare opportunity to have a cuppa made for me and enjoy it in peace. Maybe this is getting too deep, but I also like the physical contact at the hairdressers; it makes me feel looked after. But I ALWAYS get asked if I am going out at the weekend which is quite funny - AS IF!!!

FirenzeandZooey · 19/07/2007 22:13

Oh Tatties you have to make sure that you ARE going out that weekend

then you can just casually say "ah yes I am going to the cinema" or whatever and pretend to be a NORMAL person who has FRIENDS and GOES OUT and stuff and doesn't have a child attached to your leg all day and night

I love love love the head massage bit

I love the posh tea on a tray

I love the shitey magazines

I love the young thin men all in black with pouty mouths

Tatties · 19/07/2007 22:24

LOL I just sigh and say, "no, just having a quiet night in with a takeaway..... AGAIN" (Actually it was the same before I had a child attached to my leg all day and night)

My first job was in a hairdressers, I loved doing the head massage, but some people's heads were easier to do than others

Filchymindedvixen · 20/07/2007 09:18

I need to find a poncey hairdressers, don't I! at posh tea and pouty young men]
But at least my hairdressers is never going out either (except to do the weekly adsa shop and swimming etc)

FirenzeandZooey · 20/07/2007 09:28

FMF I rarely pay full price - just go to your ponceyist local hairdressers and ask if they need models

I go to Toni and Guy and they always need people. I usually pay £0 - 10 for a cut and £10 - 25 for a colour.

FirenzeandZooey · 20/07/2007 09:28

"ponceyest"

no that looks worse

Filchymindedvixen · 20/07/2007 09:29

But I always imagine they will want to punish me for my reluctance to have a reverse bob by giving me a nasty perm or colouring it pink....

Filchymindedvixen · 20/07/2007 09:30

ponciest???

FirenzeandZooey · 20/07/2007 09:32

aha

or "AAHAAAAARGH" if we are in pirate theme

thank you

TooTicky · 20/07/2007 11:47

Look, Franny, why don't you go for me? I will post you my hair and just wear a hat for a few days and then you can send it back all nicely cut.

OP posts:
FirenzeandZooey · 20/07/2007 12:31

Yup, fine, will do. Of course once I have left the hairdressers and it has been sitting on my head for a few hours, it will go all bonkers again, but you won't mind that will you?

TooTicky · 20/07/2007 12:43

No probs!
