Help! Parisian wedding.

My DBro is getting married in Paris to wonderful and impossibly gorgeous French SIL. I love them both but they and all their friends are very image conscious. I always feel like a giant pale galumphing hippo when I am over there and unfortunately I can't hide this time. There is no way I won't stand out like a sore thumb among their slender tanned petite friends so I am thinking instead try to go very fashion forward (which they will all recognise and appreciate, SIL reads French Vogue cover to cover every month). Like some kind of mad jumpsuit or giant Villanelle pink tulle dress or something.

Unfortunately very fashion forward seems to be made for sample size people and I'm 5'6", 11st, short waist, big bust and wobbly belly but good legs and relatively good arms. Looking through fashion editorials for ideas has terrified me (like this - eek: www.theguardian.com/fashion/gallery/2019/may/05/rainbow-warrior-bold-colours-for-spring)

Any suggestions? Budget up to £800 for the whole outfit.

My usual style is more along the lines of cigarette trousers, striped top, blazer and converse...

You look fab. That was a perfect outfit. How did the singing go?

wildhairdontcare · 18/05/2019 20:18

Gorgeous! Tres chic!!!

SwimmingintheDeepBLUESea · 18/05/2019 20:40

Beautiful. I like the snakeskin shoes too (which I normally wouldn't) they work well with the outfit. Is that a snake bracelet I can see; to go with the snakeskin shoes?

Floisme · 19/05/2019 09:39

You look lovely and I hope you had an equally good time and that the singing went well. I am stupidly pleased you chose the Bombshell in the end. I really, really want one too now.

I've just read the whole thread in bed, opening every link, and it was like eating ice cream for breakfast. And I have a new favourite style: 'dowager princess' which I think could be my next look.

banivani · 19/05/2019 10:43

Oh you look amazing! What a happy update!

Atalune · 19/05/2019 10:54

You look like a million bucks! Xx

SoyYo · 19/05/2019 11:23

Tres Belle!!!! Thrilled to read your update. You wear it so well!! 😍

spellingtest · 19/05/2019 12:44

This is the best thread I think I've ever read on MN. Helps that OP has the most wonderful turn of phrase. OP, you look STUNNING!

Xiaoxiong · 19/05/2019 13:37

You lovely vipers! I couldn't have done it without you all. Thank you everyone for being my personal cheer squad for both my style and sorting my head out because you were all right: why on earth was I worried about being out of place at the wedding because of my looks/clothes!!?? I sang like a complete dream in the massive cathedral-like church and everyone was coming up to me and giving me lashings of ego-boosting praise. All that worrying about how I looked was completely in my head, which is now swollen to the size of a small planet. Yes I was 4 sizes larger than the other guests who were completely glamorous and wearing proper fuck-off ball gowns to the evening reception which was like something out of an impossibly decadent film/glossy magazine, because I was a) family, b) the groom's only sibling and c) everyone saw me sing and knew who I was I felt really special and, dare I say it, really cherished and appreciated. It was the best. I may be somewhat hung over, tired and emotional

Oh and in the end I wore black jeans and an ornate Chinese fuchsia brocade silk jacket to the evening reception and felt amazing, even surrounded with très soignée glamazons. The Phase 8 one ended up feeling a bit too British wedding/black tie, I think because of the heavy ribbed satin fabric. I will be getting lots of wear out of it back home though!!

Oh and for those who asked the bracelet was from Kenya from a trip with my DBro and SIL - it does coil around the wrist a bit like a snake! (I did take my Apple Watch off and forgot to bring a necklace so I only had that bracelet)

I'm so pleased that you had a fabulous time, OP. And I think that the Bombshell dress was the perfect choice. I want one too.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 19/05/2019 17:14

These really stood out for me from Soy's page:

www.bombshellhq.com/collections/dresses-for-weddings-collection/products/gold-grace-tie-front-shirt-dress

www.bombshellhq.com/collections/dresses-for-weddings-collection/products/silk-dupion-emerald-green-grace-tie-front-shirt-dress

I think also that, given you are spending quite a lot, it would be sensible to buy something that feels like 'you', and that you could wear again.

XingMing · 19/05/2019 17:16

Thanks for the update OP; I too have read along. You looked very chic and swishy, and obviously struck the high notes with your solos. Any chance of an evening picture? (It sounds like a very clever strategic dressing move BTW.)

Papellino · 19/05/2019 17:23

Dammit. I want to go to a Parisian wedding looking like a million bucks and wowing everyone with my dulcet tones. Curses to the fact that I sing like a foghorn and don't know any Paris residents.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 19/05/2019 17:27

Once again, I have forgotten to check there are no more pages before posting. 'Show All messages' is the only way.

OP - you looked amazing and I'm so glad you felt amazing too.

I'm going to buy the green bombshell even though I have no Parisian wedding to go to)

"I sang like a complete dream in the massive cathedral-like church and everyone was coming up to me and giving me lashings of ego-boosting praise. All that worrying about how I looked was completely in my head, which is now swollen to the size of a small planet."

LOL Grin Well done you!

"I felt really special and, dare I say it, really cherished and appreciated. It was the best."

Reading this made me very happy Smile

I love that you looked fabulous and felt fabulous too!

Atalune · 19/05/2019 17:50

Annasgirl · 19/05/2019 18:06

Hi OP - what a wonderful update. Of course you wowed them!! So glad you had the fab day that you deserved. Now we all know what to do if we ever get invited to a Parisian wedding 😂

Xiaoxiong · 19/05/2019 18:32

Aww Cadburys that really made me giggle. You chose the exact dress I actually did wear (in a different fabric) even though you didn't RTFT Grin good taste!!!

You have a delicious turn of phrase. So pleased this thread has been deservedly popular.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 19/05/2019 22:13

OP you should send Bombshell a link to this thread and demand a trade discount - that dress is sold out in all sizes above a 10!
