I'm stumped. It's all dresses online.

Anyone who's been through this, please can you help? Confused

Jumpsuit and a biker style jacket, smart trainers? That's what the girls who didn't like prom dresses wore to the y6 one we had. They looked brilliant.

Hollowvictory · 29/04/2019 11:07

Why can't she wear joggers and hoody? She's 11, it's a school disco rebranded as a 'prom' let her wear what she wants

Vanillamanilla1 · 29/04/2019 11:08

Jumpsuit.. this is what my 11 year old will be wearing to her prom in July

PetuniaPetunia · 29/04/2019 11:10

"Proms" for primary school...just normal party clothes surely?

JanartaMeen · 29/04/2019 11:12

That was my second thought, like HollowVictory. I don't really like the promification of the y6 Leaver's Disco, but I know it's hard to get out of joining in.

What does she think about the whole thing? I found it v stressful with my oldest who wanted to join in but didn't really feel confident with all the dressing up. Does she want to get dressed up?

JanartaMeen · 29/04/2019 11:13

(The boys turn up in jeans or smart joggers with shirts or t shirts, so I don't see why girls can't too.)

Hollowvictory · 29/04/2019 11:14

Exactly, 11 year olds should be able to wear whatever they like. No dress code.

stucknoue · 29/04/2019 11:22

Whatever she likes, a playsuit maybe? Trousers and a blouse. It's a school disco that's all. Wait until 18 to worry about a proper prom - it's a leavers ball complete with hotels! Crazyness

PhilomenaButterfly · 29/04/2019 12:31

We have a problem with party clothes too Petunia - for the first time in 3 years she decided she wanted to dress up for a party recently, that was a 3 hour shopping trip.

I suspect she will end up going in a hoodie and joggers, I just didn't know if there was a dress code.

Thanks everyone for your help. 😁

These sorts of things can be so hard to navigate (i.e. Mine would say they really didn't care if they were different to everyone else, but then they really did when it came to it!) and when you go to the shops, I found they never had the right size, so it was a nightmare trip! Good luck!

My ten yr old won’t wear anything restrictive and says her jumpsuit is very comfortable. Just in case that helps at all.

gotmychocolateimgood · 29/04/2019 15:24

Sparkly leggings and a jersey top?

CountFosco · 29/04/2019 20:50

DD1 has smart chinos she wears when she wants to look dressed up. A jumpsuit is a great suggestion though.

ArgusFilchsCat · 29/04/2019 20:55

Another jumpsuit here. I'm not being drawn in to the whole prom dress nonsense. There's talk of hair and make up too by some parents too. Hmm
DC won't even be 11 by the time of prom!

DocusDiplo · 30/04/2019 08:14

My DD looks very smart in a demin shirt buttoned up.

Hope she has fun.

RubberTreePlant · 30/04/2019 08:16

"Proms" at the end of primary now? Shock

What does she want to wear? It can't be some super strict dress code.

Saisong · 30/04/2019 08:17

My DD has tailored shorts and a pinstripe shirt worn with canvas shoes - it looks really smart.

Hollowvictory · 30/04/2019 08:46

Calling the leavers disco/party a 'prom' immediately results in this kind of thing where kids feel they have to dress up and not wear their usual clothes. My dd lives in leggings and hoodies. That's what she wears to parties and would wear to leavers disco except our leavers party is at a swimming pool!

Playsuit worn with trainers. Something like this?

Thanks everyone. DM who's a fashion designer's taking her shopping next Saturday, she thinks the playsuit and jacket idea too. 😁
