It is mid length atm and doing my head in! Have had it short before but always feel a bit frumpy with short hair - is short curly hair a big no no?

Links to nice styles would be highly welcome!

Depends, but to be brutally honest, I think short curly hair can be unattractive. Sorry.

HuwEdwards · 16/07/2007 13:39

photo please!

Keep it about shoulder length - it can look great with the right products and some time. I don't know how it would look short

i am long curly, find it much easier longer, put it up most of the time and just trim it myself occasionally.

i have very fine hair, a rather small head and wide shoulders so need to avoid pinhead look. what is the rest of you like huffpuff, are there other considerations?

bagpussmice · 16/07/2007 14:13

i have curly hair and about a year ago had it cut into a very short crop, easy to look after and imho smart and chic - btw, I am 42, like this

The woman who is Connie in Holby City has curly hair and wears it cut v short and I think it looks very good, if that's any help ! I once had my hair cut quite short and then permed (I can't think why -this was when I was a teen) and it looked disgusting - I'd have looked better with it shaved to a No 1.

Sixer · 16/07/2007 14:17

thick curly (big curls) here. Last year i asked my hairdresser to sort it out. It was just past shoulder length at the time. All i wanted was something easy. She hacked the whole lot off. It was a beautiful cut, feathery around the nape of neck, then short up the back, with a little length for the curls on top and around the sides. I cried for about half an hour after, from shock. DP loved it and commented how I looked younger and it was funky. It took loads of product to sort it out every morning though. I would say go for it if your not camping this summer

it depends how curly. i have very curly mixed-hair and i don't think short is a good idea. its kind of frumpy on me, at least. i just look like a fuzz-bonce.
even though longer hair can be a pain, at least you can put it up in a bun or ponytail.

bigspender30 · 29/08/2007 20:44

i have shoulder length curly hair and would not get it chopped. If you keep the length, you can wear it up or down or straighten it or wear it curly. You wouldn't have as many options if it were short.

noooooo! curly hair must be long!!

ive got natural curls and havent had short hair since i was 11 and looked like a boy!

seriously though curls do look better long.

AuldAlliance · 30/08/2007 15:42

I've just had mine cropped into a kind of bob, a bit like Sixer's description, after 17 years of long, thick, curly pre-Raphaelite locks (at least, that was how men trying to chat me up described it).
It's not much more hassle than before, and makes me look younger. Lots of people have said it frames my face better and really flatters it.
I'm glad I went for it, otherwise I might never have dared.
Life is too short not to dare from time to time...

saythatagain · 30/08/2007 16:09

I've got fine curly hair, currently just past my shoulders when not curly; because I'm 5'11" if I had my hair short I'm sure I'd get mistaken for being male! Petit, gamine females would look terrific but that ain't me! IMO keep it long

lovelymoo · 30/08/2007 16:59

i have curly hair and have had short similar to posh spice. Its great as i straightened it when it was long so now its much quicker
and i've just added some highlights too to funk it up a bit

toadstool · 01/09/2007 11:10

I had a default short curly crop for 10 years until I discovered my students called me 'the woman with the mushroom haircut'... Then I grew it into a jaw-length bob but it's thick and curly, so it just looked like a box. Now I've got it nearly shoulder length, layered and usually worn up or pinned back from the face - OK, but ageing. Trouble is, I find most hairdressers haven't a clue about curly hair, all they want to do is throw products at it, or chop it off. Grr.

leo1978 · 03/09/2007 09:03

I have curly hair - if you have it short it MUST be straightened and styled every day. And with short hair there is a terrible danger of looking like a man unless you are elfin looking. I went through a man phase when I had mine cut short. I cried most days. If you want a change, colour it instead!
