I just don't know what to wear anymore!

Just that really! I'm 41, 5ft 9 and a size 12/14.

I know this time of year is always tricky as it's in-between seasons, but I seem to be just putting on the same pair of skinny jeans and rotating about 2 or 3 tops everyday, so boring! I rarely feel comfortable in the skinny jeans as always seem to have to hitch them up and can't imagine I look very good either.

I just wondered what everyone else's 'go to' outfit is everyday? I would like to try some different trousers that are flattering but easy to wear. I've had a quick look online but there seem to be so many different styles at the moment. I suppose I need to go and have a try on, tricky with 3 kids in tow!

I like dresses but don't think I could wear until the weather warms up a bit, too wintry looking to wear tights now. I have a Next voucher I haven't used since my birthday so I'm thinking of buying some white trainers/pumps so I can wear them with most things everyday. I had some before and they were so versatile but very scruffy now. Any other ideas of a few simple things I could buy for a change?

TIA
Grin

I could have written this! Same age, same size as well, only I’m quite a lot shorter, which isn’t any more fun to dress!

I’m going shopping this afternoon to see if I can find any tops!

Summer is easier as I wear flip flops, sandals and skirts/dresses, but I agree-it’s difficult to know what to wear and it’s too cold to put the boots away!

silver1977 · 14/04/2019 11:03

Exactly! Do come back and let us know if you find anything when shopping Holidayshopping! Hope you find something you like.

Are you me OP? I also could have written this. I'm into what I call my "fat pants" at the moment - jersey type trousers from Primark. I don't think I look good but they're comfortable!

Ellapaella · 14/04/2019 11:10

If you wear jeans a lot then why not think about swapping your skinny jeans for a new style of jean? The right jeans will go with anything and can be the centre point of your outfit.
So many styles to try at the moment, boyfriend, Mom, frayed hem with straight leg etc etc the list goes on. All of the above will work great with a white trainer/pump.

moomoogalicious · 14/04/2019 11:15

I've moved from skinny jeans to relaxed skinnies which are looser and tapered. They're high waisted so similar to mom jeans. I wear them rolled up with converse/dms and flip flops in the summer so they're very versatile

MollyYouInDangerGirl · 14/04/2019 11:31

I always wear black skinny jeans and tbh they dont look good on me but I just dont know what else to wear.

I'm thinking of going for a pair of black mom jeans from Topshop, they look like they have a nice shape and are high waisted.

Other than that I like to wear silky/satin-y 3/4 sleeve blouses for work, especially pussy bow ones, but a lot of the ones I have are a size too small so at the moment I'm still wearing jumpers for work Blush

Zoflorabore · 14/04/2019 11:39

I'm also 41 but 5ft 5 and a size 18/20 but doing the Exante diet and hoping to get to a 14/16 this summer.

I never ever feel right in anything I wear!
Looking for ideas too.

Ladygloss · 14/04/2019 12:41

I feel the same in skinny jeans and I think they're beginning to look a bit dated.

I bought these from next that are much more comfortable and look fresher I think. They're normal denim, not thin and stretchy and unlike s lot of Next jeans I just got my usual size.

And Primark have higher waist vintage straight jeans that I'm going to get and perhaps wear with a tucked in t-shirt ? I think we're so used to wearing longer tops loose over jeans it feels funny but I think it looks more modern that way so I'm going to try, for reference I'm 38, 5 ft 7 and a size 12

Ladygloss · 14/04/2019 12:49

Those jeans - I wear them with Stan Smiths

silver1977 · 14/04/2019 18:18

Thanks for all your replies, some helpful suggestions. Ellapaella yes I think I need to find a different style jean/trouser. I need to go and have a try on really.

moomoogalicious can I ask where you got your relaxed skinnies from? They sound great being high waisted too!

I will look at the Next ones too Ladygloss. Thanks.

I hope skinny Jean's are not going out of fashion, just got my first pair of black skinny Levi's from debenhams 40% off very pleased.

bobloblawlawblog · 14/04/2019 19:26

Have a try of the Next relaxed skinnies.

www.next.co.uk/g5288s3#519978

Or the Topshop Orson.

Both mega flattering, comfortable and look good with trainers/pumps. I like a tucked in or shorter boxy t shirt with them.

beeyourself · 14/04/2019 19:28

I'm similar - hoping that getting a decent jacket might make me feel more put together. But not sure what to go for - there was a nice one in Tesco today (amazingly!) but wrong colour for me.

silver1977 · 15/04/2019 09:29

Yes a jacket can help beeyourself ideal this time of year when you still need something warm but not a winter coat!

Thanks for links bobloblawlawblog haven't shopped in Topshop in years! I'm off to some shops today so hoping I might get chance to try a few on.

I know what you mean MollyYouInDangerGirl you get so used to wearing the same old thing that you're not sure what else to try. Those mom jeans sound ideal as being black still they're not going too far from what you're used to, but a slightly different style might be all you need for a change to your look. I remember taking ages to finally give skinnies a try and feeling quite self conscious when I first wore them, now I feel the same about trying something different again, silly really! I think as I'm getting older I'm considering comfort too which is why I want a change from skinnies, I dont really find them comfortable. I was poorly recently and they would have been the last thing I would have wanted to wear, I was grabbing looser fit bottoms to chuck on but I luckily wasnt going out the house as they were hideous I'd like to find something looser fit that are actually ok to wear out!

I’ve been reading about skinny jeans going out of fashion ever since they came into fashion. I don’t think they are going anywhere in a hurry.

Ladygloss · 15/04/2019 11:56

Size down with the Next relaxed skinnies. I got my normal size and had to give them away they looked like clown pants after a couple of wears and washes.

PinkLipsDontLie · 15/04/2019 15:27

Thin skin-colored tights. If you get them right, they really look like nothing and it appears you have bare legs. This way I am wearing skirts and dresses even now.
Trousers, it's either jeans (boyfriend or mom fit, rarely skinnies), or heavier fabric ones, not the thin summery fabrics.

Gentlemanwiththistledownhair · 15/04/2019 17:51

I also agree with changing your style of jeans. I've bought a pair of cord wide leg culottes that I love and some loose mom jeans. I tried relaxed skinnies but found that they just made me look like I had fatter legs Blush

I needed the complete change in shape for them to work for me
