Is it frumpy? I'm in my 50s. Size 12.

It's not frumpy in and of itself, but I've got a thread about a shirt dress going on at the moment and I've learned that they're better on tall women who aren't overly blessed in the nork department or too broad-shouldered. It's very similar in style (if not pattern) to the one I tried on and which was universally agreed to make me look about 80! The thread is called "Help me understand why this looks wrong".

It looks ok for work, but would need to see a pic of you wearing it. These shirt dresses look nice on the hanger, but they do nothing for me at all.

FenellaMaxwell · 13/04/2019 22:02

The fact the stripes don’t line up properly is making my teeth itch.

Ninkaninus · 13/04/2019 22:04

Yep, same for me, couldn’t deal with the awful alignment!

Yeah, me too Grin

Still18atheart · 13/04/2019 22:06

What length is it? Can’t clearly see on the thumbnail. If it’s on the knee lovely if it’s shin length think it looks frumpy

managedmis · 14/04/2019 00:50

I absolutely love it 😍

TipseyTorvey · 14/04/2019 07:18

Totally agree with pp on the fact that shirt dresses look terrible on big boobs much to my chagrin as I love the idea of them, but I look like a frumpy dumpy schoolgirl in them ☹️.

SaltSpoon · 14/04/2019 07:37

Gorgeous, but depends on how tall you are.

BarbRoyle · 14/04/2019 13:28

Thanks all. I'm 5'9, 36c chest, (agree, shirt dresses can look a bit Hyacinth Bucket if you have a bust but Ive ordered it so will see !)

I don't think it's inherently frumpy. Shoe choice and fit are important. We'd need to see it on you basically. It could look quite youthful and cool, or quite nan-ish, depending on those two factors.

NoBaggyPants · 14/04/2019 13:33

I'll do the bra intervention thing, are you sure you're a 36 back if you're only a 12? When were you last measured and where?

I don't dislike the dress but - if you're really a 36 back - it's going to look matronly.

GraceMarks · 14/04/2019 13:57

NoBaggyPants I'm a 36C and I've always stayed that size even when I got really skinny elsewhere. I basically just have an enormous ribcage! OP, I'm the same bra size as you but I'm shorter than you are, and shirt dresses are a no-no for me. I would think you will look better than I do but there are still better styles for you out there.
