People think I'm wearing slippers.

Ok, help me out please!
Now the weather is getting nicer I’ve started to wear these shoes with skinny jeans.
Only problem is that at least 3 different people have asked if I’m wearing my slippers.
Popped into work yesterday and a colleague and customer both said “ooohh, you’ve popped in in your slippers” and “nice slippers”
I’m mid/late 30s and I’m my defence the offending shoes are from Fat Face which I thought was semi trendy!
Photo below for reference!

I've got these from fat face but in a coral color and they are lush.
They are a couple of years old and we're in the sale but I constantly get compliments on them.

I wear a lot of moccasins and brogues but avoid black or brown. Gold brogues are really lush (from boden) I just wear gold as a neutral.

YodelAreCompletelyShit · 13/04/2019 09:58

It's the colourway of yours that make them look particularly slipper-like. The third photo you posted look much more like shoes.

UCOinanOCG · 13/04/2019 10:03

Who give a shit. If they are comfy then wear them and ignore what people say.

OwThatsGottaHurt · 13/04/2019 10:03

Look like regular shoes to me- very comfy and I have similar. I wouldn't worry what others say!

Littleheart5 · 13/04/2019 10:03

I think it’s the white stitching with tan that’s making people think they are slippers! If you’re not dressed too casually I think you can make it clear they’re shoes!

Fairylea · 13/04/2019 10:04

I think you’ve just been unlucky. Tons of people round here wear those sorts of shoes and no one bats an eyelid. Sure they’re not the trendiest of colours or styles but if your comfortable that’s all that matters! Not everyone wants to wear Adidas Stan smiths or gazelles or whatever other trainer is currently “in”.

anytimeyouwantto · 13/04/2019 10:12

Ooohhh I like the sound of gold ones.
And I’m definitely just going to keep wearing them.
My fat face ones are a couple of years old, but totally forgot i had stashed them so started wearing them from new last autumn.

Weord people are commenting in real life OP; seems very rude of them and I don't even know why they are- are they older? These styles of shoes are in pretty much every fast fashion based shop I've visited recently when shopping- Zara, primark, etc so perhaps it's one of those situations where they don't follow fashion and just associate them with slippers. I don't think I'd not even notice them, they're not for me but they're hardly offensive and just remind me of boat shoes! Definitely wouldn't think to put FatFace in the 'cool' shop bracket though, sorry!

anytimeyouwantto · 13/04/2019 12:49

Randomly the people commenting are all younger. So early 20s.
I’m sure a few of my friends my age wear similar shoes to mine!

Oh actually the customer that commented was a man perhaps in his 40s?!

Butterfly84 · 13/04/2019 13:10

Just wear them if you like them OP. To be honest, I'd never think they were slippers.

Flockingflamingo · 13/04/2019 13:13

I wear loafers and have never been asked thisConfused

Notcontent · 13/04/2019 13:43

No, they do not look like slippers. They are fine to wear with jeans!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 13/04/2019 14:09

I'd have said they were not an outside shoe, and I'm 28.

I'd never have been rude enough to judge other people's shoes though, let alone mention it to them.

CountFosco · 13/04/2019 14:14

They don't look like slippers. You've just been unlucky with the comments. The ones MrsChanandlerBongg linked to though are definitely slipper like!

EngagedAgain · 13/04/2019 14:21

I can't see the problem. They look like deck shoes to me. If you have problem feet and they are comfortable sod what people think. Not mumsnetters, haha, people in rl.

HundredMilesAnHour · 13/04/2019 16:15

Sorry OP, I'm still chuckling at you calling Fat Face "semi-trendy". Compared to Jacques Vert perhaps. Wink

I do think they look like slippers but if you like them, wear them. Who cares what people think? Dress for you rather than everyone else.

I have 2 pairs of actual slippers (Chinese silk ones) that I have worn out on numerous occasions. No-one has ever asked me if they're slippers but if they did my answer woule be "yes, aren't they fab?!"

BendydickCuminsnatch · 13/04/2019 18:29

If you presented them to me as a shoe, I’d think they look rather slipper-y. But I can also definitely see why people think you’re in you slippers. It’s like slap bang on the line between the two. Helpful!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 13/04/2019 18:30

No. Other way round 🤦🏼‍♀️ If you presented them to me as a slipper I’d think they look very shoe-y 😄

Knittedfairies · 13/04/2019 18:40

I never wear slippers but I do wear indoor shoes (i.e. that I don't wear out of the house). I'd wear those indoors OP.
BUT - who cares what I think? Wear your shippers with pride.

Lucked · 13/04/2019 18:47

I had those fat face shoes about two years ago and wore them everywhere, including work until they were done. I am now worried people thought I was wearing slippers - like I am only one step up from a pyjama wearing supermarket shopper.

GraceMarks · 13/04/2019 18:54

They're a tiny bit slipper-ish. I think it's just the contrasting stitching and the little tassels! I have foot problems too and I live in low-heeled brogues. Have you tried something like that?
