Warm layers that look acceptable for the office but aren’t too expensive!

Our office air con is always set to the max and I have been suffering with it for ages. Most of the women in the office find it miserably cold but in addition I now have a medical condition that means I get ill quite quickly if I get too cold.

Budget is tight but I am looking for more warm layers that still look progressional? I work in an office wear smart casual is the norm but am moving up the career ladder and some of my stuff is more scruffy than seems acceptable now I am more senior.

Definitely needs to be layers as it can be freezing cold inside and a sweltering heatwave outside!

To make matters worse I am quite overweight (caused by the medical condition) so look awful in most stuff anyway at the moment!

Probably mission impossible but thought I would ask!

Wondering about some nice scarves maybe? And what other layers?

try a base top like m and s heatgen or Uniqlo heateach. These are thin layered tops in lots of styles but really do keep you warm under normal clothes. Easy to take off and put on too. Really useful in aircon offices. \link{https://www.marksandspencer.com/ch/search?q=heatgen&lang=en_CH\marks and spencer}

Agree M and S Heathen.

helpmum2003 · 09/04/2019 18:45

Heatgen

ReginaGeorgeous · 09/04/2019 18:54

I sit directly under the air con at work. I keep a oversized scarf on the back of my chair that I put over my shoulders if I'm cold whilst I'm just working at my desk, and slip it off if I'm going into a meeting and need to look more presentable.

GreenTulips · 09/04/2019 18:55

Those or vest tops under neath - get long ones that cover your belly as that gets cold quickly

Can’t you ask that it’s turned down a bit?

eurochick · 09/04/2019 19:06

I was going to recommend uniqlo heatech too.

Notcontent · 09/04/2019 20:55

I get cold so wear Uniqlo long sleeved heatech tops under jumpers or dresses. Also a big scarf.

If only that would work. I'm in the same position... it's being looked into/ adjusted/ monitored etc. etc. 🙄
Many layers, big scarf.

Redcrayons · 09/04/2019 21:36

Also the Uniqlo ones. I've got the scoop neck ones which go great under shirts as you can't see the neckline.

Hate office air con.

NeverTwerkNaked · 09/04/2019 21:52

yeah I wish it could “just get turned down” a bit but

Lots of people have asked and nothing has ever happened

I do the same as Regina. Wear normal work clothes but have a huge scarf (practically a blanket) that I wrap round me when I'm sitting at my desk. I usually remember to take it off before going into meetings!

VanGoghsDog · 09/04/2019 22:34

Yep, the heatgen tops, scoop neck, under dresses etc, and a cardigan or jacket on top.

Dress looks fine with or without the jacket. If you do warm up you can slip the vest top off and they scrunch up quite small in your handbag.

Large size opaque tights that pull right up over your tummy. And a large scarf you can use like a pashmina.
