What to wear to the theatre in London on Sat night these days?

To a musical. Not really my cup of tea but tickets £100+. Going with old flame after separation with STBExH so there's an element of will it or won't it. Not sure about skinny black jeans and some sort of fancier top or will that not cut it? But equally, don't want to overdress. Size 8-10 and just lost a few lbs so some of my existing clothes are not quite working. Age 46. Naturally blonde. TIA

I don’t really get dressed up at all, jeans, top usually or midi dress and trainers. I do see people very ‘dressed’ though, maybe a special occasion for them!

Whatever you feel like for the date tbh. Dress in your most flattering outfit that’s reasonably comfortable (nothing worse than fidgeting through a play) and whether that’s jeans and a favourite T-shirt or a sparkly cocktail frock it won’t be wrong.

I'm going to the theatre on Saturday as well
I'm going to see a play with my glamorous mum and trendy sister and I'm pregnant and not feeling the most attractive or also sure of what to wear
I've ordered a cream blouse shirt made from sort of chiffon and then leather leggings but undecided on shoes.
The weather is bad at the mo isn't it
It's not exactly hot

Anything from jeans and hoodies with a huge backpack to evening dresses!

What’s the show? Musicals and classics have more people dressing up (some have waited years!) than political or contemporary. Skinnies, nice boots or shoes and a dressy top will be fine.

@Twitterati I am going to see Betrayal, what should I wear to that ? Is that a dress one oh lord

lancashirebornandbred · 03/04/2019 18:30

I think that these days people wear whatever they like to the theatre. Not many people dress up. A lot of the audience are tourists, so they’re wearing clothes they’ve been sightseeing in. If you feel like dressing up though, go for it.

Musicals are definitely not posh, wear something smart casual that makes you feel good. Or fancier if you prefer, nobody will be looking at your outfit

whitehalleve · 03/04/2019 21:30

I'd go for the jeans

Kintan · 03/04/2019 21:32

Jeans and a nice top would be just fine :)

onemouseplace · 03/04/2019 22:11

I went to the theatre last weekend (not a musical but good seats in a West End play) and wore indigo skinnies and this www.zara.com/uk/en/glossy-blouse-p04387053.html?v1=8100516&v2=1180428 blouse from Zara. I wanted to dress up slightly as it was our anniversary, but didn't want to be too over the top.

MajesticWhine · 03/04/2019 22:25

Jeans and a top. No need to dress up for the theatre. What ever makes you feel good.

stucknoue · 03/04/2019 22:27

Whatever you are wearing already? Went last month and most people had shopping bags.

nostaples · 03/04/2019 22:43

Thanks all. Will try some things on tomorrow. Wish I had more time to shop!
