Barefoot shoes for work

I’ve got my son in vivobarefoots and they are fab. I had my shoes off today in the lovely spring weather and decided I want to treat myself to some. I’ve got wide feet, the start of a hammer toe and need to reawaken my glutes!

A few questions: Can anyone recommend a brand other than vivos for more choice? After a work/everyday shoe ideally.

Are the vivo primus lites smart enough to wear with cropped chinos?

Can I interchange between barefoot shoes and normal shoes as I really can’t afford more than one pair!

How has anyone found transitioning to barefoot just for everyday wear? I’m on my feet a lot for work but won’t be running in them.

Thanks!

My people! Grin

I have a pair of formal work shoes from The Drifter Leather, in lovely soft vegetable-tanned leather. They're like ballet flats but with a thin ankle strap that makes them look more dressy. I luuuuvs them. (Definitely worth following advice from Baresteps blog about ordering from the Drifter, though).

Thanks for the great advice @thislido and @DontAskIDontKnow

Currently I do take really huge strides and my glutes are never activated while walking so there's a lot of work to do!

geeka Those were one of the pairs I ordered - they arrived smaller than the bloody template I'd given them. I did really like their shoes so I might make one final attempt, but so far it's been an expensive waste of time. I followed the Baresteps lady's tips too Sad

thislido Oh that's a shame! Did you send them the scanned drawn outline of your feet and everything?

Mine are generously sized, probably because I was wearing socks when I drew the outline of my feet but tend to wear the shoes with tights or those invisible sock things.

Look on YouTube for Eric Goodman’s Foundation Training. That will get you engaging your glutes.

Try Lems. My DH lives in them.

geeka yep, scanned outline (definitely at 100% size) whilst wearing socks and CorrectToes!

I like the look of the Lems Boulder Boot but their ‘work’ shoes are a joke - I don’t think they are even suitable for a business casual environment.

OK I’ve ordered the vivo primus luxe in navy. I’m not convinced they will be smart enough to go with the chinos I normally wear to work but might just get away with it as they’re leather. I liked the look of their ‘100 day trial’ if I don’t get on with them. Will report back! Thanks again for all the help and suggestions

Have they arrived?!

smilingartichoke · 12/04/2019 18:10

I know these are not exactly 'barefoot' in the pure sense, but has anyone tried the German brand Baer? www.baer-shoes.co.uk

They use anatomically shaped lasts, so shoes follow natural toe shape. Very expensive but apparently good quality. I've been mulling about some of their trainers. They also sell the joe nimble barefoot brand.

I often wear the Vivo Primus Lite to work but my office is smart/casual and so far no-one has commented!

I do bring a ‘smart’ pair of regular shoes which I keep under my desk just in case I need to smarten up a bit.

They are amazingly comfortable and I absolutely love wearing them. Haven’t found the adjustment tricky but I’m barefoot all the time at home and very rarely wear a high heel. Katy Bowman’s books are amazing.

They have! They are incredibly comfortable, I love how they feel. I wasn’t sold on the leather trainer look though-it felt a bit old fashioned. I have re ordered the primus lite in the grey instead so will see how they look! I would have got the black but no stock.

They looked very big to me on my feet but a friend tried them and they looked totally normal so just me looking down at myself I guess! My friend also had the Gobi 2 desert boots which are currently out of stock but I loved them. They would definitely be smart enough for me for work too so keeping an eye out for a restock on the website.
