What to wear to comedy show followed by club?

I am out on a date tomorrow night. I have time to shop, but am stuck on ideas for tyoe of outfit!
Its a comedy club followed by a club, not a first date.
I am 5.9, size 10, over 35. Do not look good in jeans, I prefer dresses.
Any ideas would be gratefully received. Thank you

I used to wear bodycon style dresses but have not been out in ages do they might be out of style? My favourite is a black knee length halter dress. But am i too old now?
