What shoes do you wear with bodycon dresses when you can't walk in heels?

The title says it all really.
Been loving some bodycon dresses recently, and almost all the shoes that models wear are heels, whether chunky or stilettos its always heels.
I am only one inch shorter than DH, and walk like bambi in heels.
I want to look fashionable and stylish, I think ballet pumps don't give off the right style or elegance.
In fact, I'm not sure what else other than heels will give off the look I want 😬

You can get ballet pumps with a pointy toe, or strap details or some kind of embellishment to make them more dressy?

chickenalapesh · 29/03/2019 11:27

I'd probably look for something other than a bodycon dress. Not remotely stylish and definitely not with flats.

Is it a particular event? What's your usual style?

PinkHeart5914 · 29/03/2019 11:32

A bodycon needs heels to look good imo.

You need a different style dress if you can’t wear heels

honeycrumpet · 29/03/2019 11:43

I'd get heels that aren't too high and that have an ankle strap or straps across the foot so that you won't feel like they're going to come off your feet every time you take a step. Then wear them around the house for short periods every day to get used to them! There's loads of shoes on ASOS that would work - these are a bit high but loads of straps, these have a chunky heel (more comfortable) and tie across the foot, these are lower with an ankle strap, these are chunky heeled as well.

I wear with block heeled ankle boots

LuxuryWoman2018 · 29/03/2019 13:54

They can look amazing with flat boots if the boots are tight enough on the calf, bit of a 60’s vibe. If you can really ‘own’ the look they can even look good with converse style plimsolls but you’d need confidence for that and possibly be Kate Moss.

chickenalapesh · 29/03/2019 19:52

I'm shocked at peoples replies, if you want to look fashionable and stylish. Step away from the bodycon. That said, it might help if we can see a pic of this dress. Although I can almost guarantee I won't be recommending converse (again, not stylish). Not being a cow even if I sound like one. I work for a fashion magazine so do have half an idea. Even if only half 😆

Not that I could wear a bodycon dress with my figure but how about some kitten heels?

Elllllle · 29/03/2019 22:34

This is the sort of look I mean whistles.

chickenalapesh I don't rate much of what I see in fashion magazines these days. Arent they just generally one long paid promotional exercise? Grin

chickenalapesh · 29/03/2019 22:57

Haha depends which you buy ;)

Ps. Great outfit you've suggested. I was visioning something ala traveller bodycon and flats!

This is the dress I'm looking at.
It's for an evening invite to a wedding (we don't get out very much so I always use the opportunity to switch from mom clothes to something dressy uppy for me).
Wedding isn't till October (but I'm 36 weeks pregnant and have some pregnancy weight to lose 😳).
Its just something I've been thinking about for a while.
I might look horrific in it, I might choose something else (I normally do skater dresses, not body con), but I was just thinking of different options.
I'm quite alternative, think facial piercings, tattoos, variety of hair colours (currently teal).
I am thinking possibly a chunky boot? I hate the look of wedges but I'm okay with a lower chunkier heel. See attached picture of what is probably the best I can walk in for guidance. Definitely not thinner or taller than that heel.

@Kennehora have you tried Duo Boots? They are pricey but you buy by your calf fitting

I'd wear low ankle boots personally. I wear ankle boots with everything! Am also quite alternative and don't do heels. I'd also wear high top cons but not to a wedding!

CountFosco · 30/03/2019 14:21

The heels the OP has added the photo of are very high! I'd wear white ankle boots or fancy mules (like the pink ones in short's last photo, although not pink, possibly orange?) with that dress. What kind of jacket are you wearing?

GraceMarks · 30/03/2019 16:07

I don't think bodycon really works with flats, sorry. One of the many reasons I don't wear it! Could you not go with a low heel and do some walking around in them prior to the actual event so you get used to them? I don't see why it matters if it makes you taller than your dh, unless he has some sort of complex about his height, and even then I wouldn't let it stop me if I were you.
