Chasing toddlers at a 40th party - what to wear?

Been invited to a 40th party by Dh's friends. It's an afternoon into evening affair and involves lots of people he hasn't seen for years and I've never met. Our 2 dc (2&3yrs) are also invited. What on earth can I wear that will be smart but practical? I tend to live in jeans and hoodies at weekends. I'm a generous 12 and early 40s. All help would be most grateful received!

I wore a floral jumpsuit from Oasis. It didn't look it but was jersey so really comfy and way more practical than a dress for all the reaching down and crouching around toddlers. With a pair of block heel sandals it was fab! Have reworn a number of times since.
Took a day of trying on to find something that was flattering but def recommend looking at jumpsuits...

I have a toddler and a BF baby and wore a jumpsuit to my 40th afternoon-to-evening party at our house too. Mine was polka dot navy from pretty little thing in the Asos sale, I'm a size 10.

Thanks..tried looking at jumpsuits but they all seem to have cropped legs which I don't seem to be able to carry off! Will heck out Oasis & Pretty Little things

Start by looking for what you want to wear. Id maybe steer clear of solid coloured silk type fabrics in case of sticky hands, but otherwise I’m sure you can manage for a few hours to look after children and look nice?

Insertwitticismhere · 31/03/2019 18:19

@biscuitdrama tbh I struggle to look nice kids in tow or not!

I wore some patterned trousers and a black top with block heel sandals - practical for all the bending! And made an extra effort with my hair! Good luck finding something you like.

I’ve got a wedding to go to in August and have just ordered several jumpsuits from Bon Marche, (palm tree print, navy polka dot and a flowery one. all had two or three leg lengths available. All were under £25 each.

just had a quick look on john lewis and can see what you mean about the cropped leg...
these 2 appealed to me...

Next has some nice tea style dresses at the moment. I got a nice blue one with delicate polka dots, it's wrap too style and quite flattering. Wear with snag tights (super comfy) and Chelsea boots or flats?

Me too, that’s why I’m thinking don’t try and limit it! Just makes it harder. Grin
