Where can I get my wedding dress from, if I don’t want it to look like a wedding dress?

Hi gorgeous S&B crew,
I’m getting married in August and I want to wear a gorgeous summer dress.
I’m looking for inspiration for shops / brands I may not know about.

I’m 45 , but look kinda good for my age, I don’t want fussy, and I like edgy.
I’m apple shaped , olive skinned and suit drop waists and empire lines, among other things.
The wedding will be a bit village hall, a bit festival.

Many thanks.

What kind of budget were you thinking of? Any colour preferences?

Ohyesiam · 27/03/2019 19:39

FleeceDetective up to about £500?
I suit most colours except khaki.
I love red, saffron, infact most yellows, soft greens and greys.

Can you get to a Selfridge's or Harvey Nichols?

GeorgeTheBleeder · 27/03/2019 20:24

Here you go.

Ohyesiam · 27/03/2019 20:27

thedevilinablackdress that is a very good idea.
george I’ll buy one if you will

You don't like? Fine. It's on my 'to buy' list.

Better? Would certainly be wearable again.

anniehm · 27/03/2019 20:39

My go to is bravissimo (due to busy size) but DD's is from Debenhams (£110) for a big function

AwkwardPaws27 · 27/03/2019 20:41

I got a gorgeous beaded dress from Monsoon. It was in their bridesmaid range. It had a bit of a vintage feel to it.

GeorgeTheBleeder · 27/03/2019 20:57

Hmm .... We don't appear to like the same things so maybe this won't be what you're looking for. But their clothes are superbly made.

BrightonBB · 28/03/2019 07:07

Does anyone know when high street stores release their summer dresses online / in store?
Monsoon, Coast, Hobbs, Debenhams, Phase Eight, Ghost any other suggestions?
I’m in a similar position to you Ohyesiam :)

thekingfisher · 28/03/2019 07:09

Sezane have beautiful dresses

Ladybird37 · 28/03/2019 07:20

Watching too, but nothing to add yet. Where to find something if you’re a bit Apple shaped?

Ohyesiam · 28/03/2019 12:58

BrightonBB yay! Yes I want to know when summer will hit the shops.
Ladybird I’m an apple too.
George sorry , I think I sounded a bit rude. Don’t think my SOH comes over well in print.
But I really like your second suggestion. Will check
It out.

I know using perfect models worked on me when I was young, I thought I could buy a bit of their gorgeousness. But now that I’m older and thicker set than I’ve ever been, the thin bony models just make me think oh well these clothes will never possibly suit me. They’d sell more to me if they used less statuesque models.
Looking at the Sezane website( thanks for the suggestion, beautiful dresses) I was left thinking that even at my slimmist I’ve sadly never looked like I’m made of cheekbones and broad shoulders.
Rant over, I think i need to try some stuff on.

I really appreciate everyone posting.

Okay ... If you like the ivory I've seen something else you might love ... Hold on ...

Here. Maybe not such an easy shape but rather glorious.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 28/03/2019 13:39

Agree re The Outnet - what about this one? Empire Line, bit Boho etc. More than one colour available.

I got a lovely skirt from Needle and Thread and a simple cream top from Etsy - some of the Needle and Thread stuff is very fussy but there are some gems in there.

Alternatively, for edgy, how about Self Portrait? I think this is stunning www.self-portrait-studio.com/collection/dresses/mixed-floral-printed-dress

Ohyesiam · 28/03/2019 16:46

DontCallMeCharlotte drool indeed, that is amazing. I’d love something like that with a bit more nork coverage.
