Which white trainers?

RhubarbCrumbled · 27/03/2019 11:07

They're to go with jeans / trouser / dresses. I usually wear converse but the rainbow makes me smile! I'm not sure whether to go chunkier than normal though. Size 4 feet.

Any other suggestions are also welcome.

I’m still on the hunt for white trainers that I love, I’ve ended up with off with trainers that are very similar to the Dorothy Perkins ones and live in them when I’m not in my clumpy sandals - I’ve got rheumatoid arthritis so I need comfy shoes.

@ellapaella I love your whole outfit, the jeans are pretty decently priced aren’t they!

ShopoholicIn · 30/03/2019 21:28

@ellapaella
Love those hush shoes sadly oos in my size.

SoyDora · 30/03/2019 21:37

such a mum sort of shoe!

What’s wrong with looking like a mum?! Plus all the mums I know look completely different 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Rollerbird · 30/03/2019 21:40

I just bought these

Extremely comfortable especially in ball of foot area

Ellapaella · 31/03/2019 08:48

@ShopoholicIn that's a shame, they must have sold out very quickly as they had plenty in a few days ago! The plain white ones are also lovely, exactly the same just without stripes and there's plenty of those in stock.

TiddleTaddleTat · 31/03/2019 09:13

I don't know on what planet converse are Mum shoes and hush are not?!

I've been looking for a decent replacement for my white leather converse that I loved and wore to death... have just ordered these www.office.co.uk/view/product/office_catalog/4,85/1871910102

Ellapaella · 31/03/2019 09:34

Noons said Hush shoes are not Mum shoes???
And so what anyway? I'm a Mum, I'll wear whatever shoes I like!

Ellapaella · 31/03/2019 09:35

All these shoes mentioned here, all the trainers, Adidas etc are worn predominantly by women aged 25+ so presumably lots of Mums wear the same shoes. I don't get this whole thing about using the word Mum in a derogatory way.

MassDebate · 31/03/2019 10:31

These are cute too and quite like the ones you have pictured (but nicer IMO)

such a mum sort of shoe!

What sort of Mum are we talking about, a Mum in her 20s, 30s, 40s? Such a generalisation. Why does Mum = dowdy, this isn't the 1950s! It's like certain brands being called "Dad brands" because someone in their 30s or 40s (sarcastic tone because 30s/40s soooo old these days Confused)

Why can't we just wear what we like, we are our own worst enemies!

origamiunicorn · 31/03/2019 11:41

*because someone in their 30s/40s has dared to wear what they like, I meant.

Ellapaella · 31/03/2019 12:00

@origamiunicorn yes exactly! So annoying. This comes up all the time on Mumsnet.. people slating certain brands or labels as 'mumsy' or 'frumpy' - why do they feel the need to do it? Especially making the comment on a thread where other posters have obviously said they like the item in question.
Personally I will continue to wear Converse, Hush and whatever else I want, if I like it and it makes me feel good then so be it.

Ellapaella · 31/03/2019 12:01

Anyway rant over. Just get sick of the same thing coming up on these threads over and over. Sorry @RhubarbCrumbled for derailing your thread! There's loads of lovely suggestions on here.

RhubarbCrumbled · 31/03/2019 14:49

Hello! I've been away for a few days so having a look through today (and catching up with the rant! I totally agree there's no 'mum' shoe. Where whatever the hell you love).

I've just been given a Boden voucher so may go back to those.

And it's a whole other rant as to wearing what you love. I've been dressing for other people for too long and I want to love what I wear for me again!!

I’ve just ordered some new white converse. I am a mum, so yes they probably are mum shoes 🤷🏻‍♀️. Oh well, I like them!

Make themselves feel better I imagine. Mums come in all ages shapes and sizes, to say something is Mumsy just doesn't make sense, it's lazy. Agree with you though, wear what you like 🙂

👏 Yep

Frazzled2207 · 31/03/2019 18:53

Going to sound really dum here
I like the sound of white shoes but can't get over the practicalities - so do you end up cleaning them all the time? And do you "retire" them sooner than you would darker shoes?

ShopoholicIn · 01/04/2019 17:05

@Ellapaella- sadly the jeans is also not available in my size.
@Frazzled2207- exactly my thoughts but I was in London over the weekend n most of the ladies wearing white canvas or leather shoes n some wearing darker shades of canvas shoes ..N I don't know how people keep it clean if they r out n about in them so often ... so far i had avoided buying canvas but i an eyeing converse in white

Betty777 · 01/04/2019 17:46

Yes you have to clean them, yes you retire them earlier than other shoes.

but I find the trick is to buy white leather shoes (rather than canvas) as they last much longer

Ellapaella · 01/04/2019 21:53

I'd be tempted to stick my white canvas ones in the wash - can't see why it wouldn't be ok, I stick the kids plimsoles in and they come out fine.

RhubarbCrumbled · 03/04/2019 15:30

I bought the Boden after being sent a £10 birthday voucher!

From what I remember, toothpaste is useful for getting white trainers white again. If you're going to wash canvas trainers make sure they go on a cool wash otherwise the glue will melt!

Ella those jeans are lovely. Just wondering about sizing on ASOS. Are they true to size?

Ellapaella · 04/04/2019 07:34

@mizu they are from ASOS but are not their own brand, they are Bershka. I found them to be true to size, I'm a fairly standard 10 most places (12 in TopShop) and these are a 10 and a good fit.
