Can anyone find me this dress but not in "dry clean only"?

I've found a dress I love (and I never normally wear dresses), but it's dry clean only (and, frankly, f* that...). Does anyone know of any similar which can be washed? Ideally cheaper too, but I might have paid for this one anyway as I love it so....

TIA

It doesn't say the material does it (awful Web page, why is all the text grey??). Assuming it's not silk I bet its washable.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 20/03/2019 16:08

It's 100% viscose. No clue why on earth it would be dry clean only for that dress (or why it would be so expensive!)

I'd hand wash it and line dry.

PapaJanePizza · 20/03/2019 16:08

Thanks @StealthPolarBear. Is that right? It says it's 100% viscose under "details", but also "specialist dry clean"....

Thank you @Whatsnewpussyhat.
I know - it's a stupid price for viscose. But I love it SO much...

Maybe I should shop around anyway as it is a bit ridiculous price-wise... (I've never spent that much on anything before)

Nothing wrong with spending loads on something you love and will wear lots.
Massive pita if it needs dry cleaning though.

With modern washing machines and delicate cycles there isn't much that should need dry cleaning. Suits and expensive coats maybe. And highly embellished dresses.

I just know that you could pay £30 on asos or Dorothy Perkins etc for something similar and the actual quality will be no different.

BusterGonad · 20/03/2019 16:25

WARNING viscose is prone to shrinking! I've often in the past sized up due to shrinkage. You usually lose a size in width and length!

PapaJanePizza · 20/03/2019 16:28

and the actual quality will be no different.

Is this true, @Whatsnewpussyhat? I've never bought Whistles before, so perhaps I'm imagining something of a higher quality than it is...

Thanks @BusterGonad. I will take heed!

Apricot often have ditsy print dresses, if you want to spend less.

PapaJanePizza · 20/03/2019 16:43

I'd never heard of Apricot (and didn't know this was "ditsy"!) - I've already found possible alternatives on there @pineappletower, so maybe this is not the only possibility Blush - thank you!

They are saying it's dry clean only as viscose that hasn't been pre washed/water treated will react with water. It's so they can cover their arses and stop people getting a refund if it shrinks.

SurgeHopper · 21/03/2019 01:09

I'd say there's loads of cheaper versions of that elsewhere, that's not dry clean only tbh
