Going lighter to blend in the grey?

Has anyone done this? I'm not brave enough to let it all grow out yet. I'm light brown/dark blonde and it goes a bit gingery if I let the dye age too much. I'm debating choosing a lighter blonde which I know won't lighten the dark blonde/brown, but I hope should cover the grey a bit and warm it in tone as it grows out a bit. Occasionally I get highlights, but don't want the cost and time it takes to do it all the time.

In my head it means I'll be less gingery and the grey growth will be less obvious.

TBF, it's more white than grey at the temples and in my parting.

I did but to be honest darker hair just suits me so much better and my hair looks healthier darker. I am naturally a dark auburn colour and it suits my colouring. I feel your pain OP

I'm a mid brown and have spent years having blonde highlights with a darker all over colour underneath to hide my grey.

I've absolutely ruined my hair with it all, and decided to grow all the colour out - the last colour I had was at the end of November. And my hair is horrific.... I've gone shorter, but even DH said the other day "are you sure about doing this........" as it just looks awful. If I had my time back, I'd never have started with the blonde. I really wouldn't start as bleaching your hair just ends in damage.

Thanks for replies.

I used to dye mine darker and I'm sure I liked it at the time, but looking back at photos, it was way too dark!

I'm not bleaching to make it blonde. I have been using the age defy box dyes on it for a while as it's the only dye I don't react to. Usually using a dark ash blonde one - which comes out as very light brown really. I'm just thinking of using one of their 'blonde' lighter ones that doesn't actively lighten the hair with bleach as a way to cover the white/grey with a touch of colour rather than stick with the darker blonde. I'm thinking it will just grow out with the lighter blonde on top of the regrowth which should be lighter but not as drastic as the white/grey is compared to my current colour.

I've got one box and am going to see what it looks like next time it needs doing.... can always change it if I don't like it I suppose.

Wish I could just not bother, but I think I'll look strange with so much of it white with some of it still darker grey (and whatever tiny fraction remains my original mousy brown).
