Has anyone been to the Olivier's? Come on and tell me what you wore.

Interested in how dressy 'normal' people are for the Olivier's. I know nominees are fully gowned and glamorous for the red carpet, but DD is going ( with a nominated friend) and looking for a new dress (I'm enjoying it vicariously sticking my nose in )

Is it full length gowns for all, or is something cocktail-y in order.

Of course, she'll do her own thing, but I've got a pile of dull work to do and googling dresses is the perfect displacement activity.

Wear something she can sit for an extended period in comfortably- it's hours! If she's with a nominee then there's a chance of being on camera so she needs to feel confident in what she's wearing. Length is up to her but most will be full or 3/4 length from watching on tv in the past. If she's needing a dress I've had success with Ever Pretty dresses off amazon - 3 hits one miss.

Your DD could hire a dress? Ballerina/3/4 length is fine...if she is a +1 rather than industry herself it’s probably a good idea to avoid anything too scene stealing, even if she’s hoping to be spotted. I had a very Audrey Hepburn style Emporio Armani LBD dress that was perfect, only cost me £200 in the sale and easy to wear again. It was off the shoulder black stiff taffeta, beautifully cut, ballerina style skirt. I had a good subtle fake tan, 40s Veronica Lake Style Waves, leopard print kitten heels, very clean make up, pretty much glass style skin, perfect immaculate cat eye, bold matte red lip, classy jewellery. It was timeless and worked in a Jameela Jamil way.

Can your DD get to Bicester Village? There might be something perfect there.

If I was going this time I’d probably go for a more sun kissed look. Animal print is hot at the moment so I would have been looking for a maxi length snakeskin silk Grecian style dress, hair up or loose waves and golden and bronze makeup tones. I might have booked in to get my make up done at Charlotte Tilbury in Covent Garden as there was a girl there who did the look perfectly although it cost a bit.

Thank you for the suggestions @anniehm and thanks so much for the detailed reply @ShadyLady53 it was just what she needed!

I've forwarded the advice to Dd. I think she has no illusions of being discovered! She's working in film production, but like her nominated friends, she is just out of uni and at the start of her career. She was thinking of something lovely but understated, so your reply was very reassuring.

It will be a lovely evening. She was heavily involved in the original incarnation of the nominated production, so is really excited for her friends and wants to look right but not noticeable IYKWIM

There are a few affordable occasion wear dresses on the ghost website. I can attest to their comfortable wearability and classic cuts. I git married in a ghost dress and it's been recycled many times by myself and friends for formal occasions
