What sort of shoes do you wear with trousers like these?

I feel like I’d have naturally known this if I was still young, but it took me long enough to work out what shoes go with skinny jeans when they became fashionable. Now I can’t work out what to put with tapered trousers. The boots in the pic look bloody ridiculous. Trainers wouldn’t work for me because I have big feet. Please help a clueless person:

The boots are actually what you’re supposed to wear with that sort of trouser - albeit they can be black. You’re supposed (if you buy into all that!) to leave a small gap between the top of the boot and the bottom of the trousers.

Clumpy brogues would also work, with a gap showing and no socks.

Loafers

Cuch · 10/03/2019 08:09

Surely boots with a gap would just make it look like you’re wearing too-short trousers? God I am old now. I don’t get fashion any more.

I'd wear boots similar but in black. But you could also wear brogues or loafers.
Are you thinking of the trousers for work or to wear casually?

NanooCov · 10/03/2019 08:44

I'd wear loafers or brogues. I thrill the boots are hideous.

NanooCov · 10/03/2019 08:44

*think! No idea where thrill came from.

Trainers, brogues, boots that are fitted at the ankle, eg DMs
I know you said you have 'big' feet and can't wear trainers, but plenty of us do and it's all good.

OxanaVorontsova · 10/03/2019 09:09

I have big feet and wear trainers, loafers, ankle boots. I'm also old.

Charley50 · 10/03/2019 09:40

Why don't trainers work with big feet? You can get unchunky trainers or Vans / Converse.
This is a general response, I'm crap with knowing what to wear on my feet too.

Fairylea · 10/03/2019 10:13

If you’re bothered about looking trendy then trainers are meant to look chunky - so big feet doesn’t even enter into it. Everyone is looking like they have big feet!!

I am nearly 40. I wear Nike Air Force ones most of the time. I have a 16 year old dd and she tells me what’s fashionable and what isn’t. Often I ignore her because you know, different age groups etc but it is good to hear her views!

She wouldn’t be seen dead in tapered trousers without a gap between the shoes and the trousers. She rolls everything up or wears low socks with everything.

I admit I hardly ever do this myself as it feels so weird! I wear skinny jeans and am happy with them just going to the bottom of my ankle and bunging trainers on the bottom. Or DM type boots with them rolled up touching at the top.

Fashion is very odd at the moment!

ApolloandDaphne · 10/03/2019 10:18

My 26yo DD1 would love those trousers. She would wear them with her DM shoes.

LancashireTea · 10/03/2019 10:21

Those boots are horrible. The trousers look nice would look bloody awful on me

I'd wear them with brogues or loafers. Or even converse.

Atalune · 10/03/2019 11:35

As the others have said some pointy sling back shoes. Very very pointy.

Cuch · 10/03/2019 11:55

He only time trainers have ever looked right on me we’re when bootcut jeans and carpenter jeans were fashionable. I do sometimes wear them with skinny jeans but they look daft because my feet are so big. They look terrible on me with any other sort of trousers, shorts or skirts and dresses - really really silly (and yes, I’ve tried lots of different styles and shapes).

Brogues/loafers or pointy slibgba is seem like the best bet here then, thank you all.
