Soap

I’m trying to move away from shower gel to bars of soap. However the ones I’ve tried I’m not very impressed with. Can anyone recommend a soap that lathers, isn’t drying and is made in the UK? I’m missing my lovely bubbly shower gel but trying to buy less plastic!

toobuktim do the soaps lather, I think this is what I’m missing!

Nesti Dante are Italian. Their soaps are (IMO) the best. Just so lovely. I like the big bars but struggle to hold them (small hands). I'm trying out hessian soap bags and I'm quite impressed. You can find Nesti Dante in TKMaxx or even Amazon. Once tried there's no going back.

whataboutbob that’s very impressive but I’m way too lazy for that! Nesti Dante sound highly rated but I’m determined to support UK business! 🇬🇧

I’ve found that a lot of soap contains palm oil.
I really like Friendly Soap for soap and shampoo bars.

Crabtree & Evelyn soaps are lovely and I think made in the UK. They appear to be closing down their shops but I’m not sure if they will stop trading online - anyway lots of discounts on their website now if you search under “soap”.

I prefer them to ND - the ND soaps I’ve tried (only a few tbf) seemed a tiny bit harsh and over-perfumed.

Oh that’s a good point about palm oil. Gah, there are so many ways to get things wrong 😩

Friendly soap look like they fit the bill. Do they lather? How about the shampoo bars? I suffer with dry flaky scalp so would soap bar make this worse?

The friendly soap shampoo bars lather well, I have sensitive skin and have suffered from dandruff in the past - was a head and shoulders user for many years. I now use the tea tree shampoo bar and it’s fab. The other two bars - charcoal for face and lemongrass for body don’t lather as much as the shampoo, but they certainly do the trick. My teenagers say they too feel noticeably cleaner using proper soap rather than shower gel. I’m very impressed with them.

Bronnley British made orchid is lovely.

L”Occitane soaps have the palm oil logo on them for responsibly sourced palm oil.

If you want UK made, the Kew Garden one I'm currently using is very very similar to Nesti Dante I've used before.

Beefayre, Faith in Nature, The Handmade Soap co and The Little Soap Co are all UK made and really nice. I switched to soap a few years ago and my skin isn't as dry. Whenever I use shower gel (apart from.a couple like Aveeno) my skin is so dry and tight after. Soaps also make the bathroom smell good!

Tesco and Boots both stock the Little Soap Company, made in Cotswolds. I’ve tried the fragrance free one and there was another one possibly lavender and oatmeal. I really liked them :-)

Also L'Occitaine Milk Shea Butter is excellent. Looks expensive but lasted me a year.

ChesterGreySideboard · 10/03/2019 08:08

I use Simple soap. Never upsets my skin.

Just worth pointing out that Simple is made with tallow ie animal fat.

Bronnley Lemon soap smells so beautiful it makes my mouth water!
Also love Pears (the new green one is lovely too). Sainsbury’s do a range of natural soaps that lather well.
