I have dark dark hair and pale skin.

My sister has put me in a bright pink dress

this kind of colour.

I am going to look awful aren't I.

Do you normally go for rusty colours in your make up? I'd have thought so long as you're not a red head the dress should be ok. Why do you think your make up won't work?

difficult to tell in abstract but in theory that colour could look amazing with dark hair.

stick to natural colours for make up - ie what suits you/goes with your skin - the only no-no would be rusty/orange/red lipstick.

go for the clichéd natural-looking 'no makeup makeup' look
if your brows / lashes are pale you may need more masacara/eyebrow pencil than normal
and do consider blusher even if you don't normally wear it else you may look like a ghost in the photos. Use a colour that suits you (ie the colour your cheeks go when you pinch them) rather than a pink-to-match-the-dress

and go at your sis from me...

hi, i have similar colouring to you and i think you will look lovely! you could wear grey with purple tinge eyeshadow. (sounds weird but i had my make up done and it looked good). go along to a beauty counter and ask their advice. take the dress with you.

BBBee · 09/07/2007 09:46

cherve - which make upo counter did you go to?

Wonderful plan btw!

my aunt helped me with the grey eyeshadow stuff but have asked advice at various counters. chanel are normally quite good as they are less likely to be ditzy 18 yr olds. bobbi brown run the hilariously named makeup university which i have not had the courage to go to. basically go on a quiet day and ask the woman who looks the most normal.
