Does anyone buy their own frames and have their prescription fitted elsewhere?

I got my first pair of glasses from Boots. I found their eye testing to be fantastic but the range of frames were disappointing.

None of them suited me at all and I spent a very long while trying frames on.

I ended up with a mens pair for driving and.an OK looking pair of reading glasses.

I have now sourced some frames from elsewhere but Boots won't fit their lens into them even though its a brand they sell.

I'm going to ask Boots to give me my prescription details then I'd like to send the frames off to have lens fitted but I've no idea where to take or send them.

Anyone else do this?

I always use the Glasses Direct website. I get my prescription from the optician and fill it in on their website. You can trial the frames first. I never go anywhere else now!

Glasses direct are brilliant. I found codes as well that gave me about 40% off!

No, I also use Glasses Direct. Love that you can try out frames at home first - I always take my trial frames into work to help with the decision making process.

Thank you.

So I can send them my own frames? I don't have to buy their frames.

Hi Op I have done this. Basically I did not like the boots selection of glasses (only got a basic pair from them but wanted a nicer one) I asked for the prescription and the lady in the counter was saying to me about it would be cheaper to buy from boots (she clocked what I was doing), I said I knew but I wanted some others that they could not supply plus it is my data do they have to give me the data.
Took the prescription to another local optician (with a good range of designer/upmarket) and showed the prescription, explained the issue and bought the glasses from them.
Happy with my new glasses

I have never tried online, but I like to go and try and see in person all the frames personally.

I use an independent optician and they always give me a copy of my prescription after a check, without being asked. (In fact I thought they had to do this by law?)

I look everywhere for frames but, if I see some that I like, I ask my optician if they can order them for me to try - they usually can cos they're not restricted like a chain is. Or even if I do end up buying the frames elsewhere, I always take them back to my optician to fit the lenses, so that they get some of the business.

I wouldn't buy online - I try on millions before I make a choice so it sounds far too much of a faff. Plus I think my optician is pretty great and I like to do my bit to support them.

Thank you everyone.

I've already ordered the frames online. I know the shape that suits me and they're the same shape as my sunglasses, a style that I've worn nearly all my adult life.

Thank you for the above link.

Their prices are much cheaper than Boots.

I get my prescription done wherever I get a voucher, then buy my glasses from Tortoise and Black, amazingly priced designer frames. Got my last Ray Bans for £80 including lenses and anti glare.

notanothernam · 04/03/2019 09:57

(And yes they HAVE to give you your prescription)

EverybodysTalkingAtMe · 04/03/2019 09:59

Tortoise and Black sound interesting

notanothernam · 04/03/2019 10:00

www.tortoiseandblack.com

They often have discount codes, they had 20% off for Black Friday, usually a 10% signing on code.

Have also used www.tortoiseandblack.com for some lovely Tom Ford sunglasses and I know they can do prescription lenses too! Lovely lady was really helpful on phone x
