Where to look for summer wedding guest dress, petite teens

TeenTimesTwo · 02/03/2019 18:47

We are off to a smart wedding in the early summer.
Both my teen DDs will need dresses (not matching!), something suitably smart but 'grown up' not 'childrens'.
They are 5ft give or take, one is adult size 6-8 the other size 10-12.

Ideally high street rather than just online. Willing to pay up to £100 each (or more if necessary), but happy to only pay £25.

I know summer dresses are only just coming out, so I may be a month or two early for exact recommendations. But what shops do you think I should keep an eye on?

My 5'1" teenager finds Debenhams pretty good for dresses.

PuzzlingPuzzle · 02/03/2019 19:04

I know you’ve said ideally not online but ASOS has loads of occasion and summer dresses in petite sizes under £100. Their return policy is pretty good so you could order a few for them to try on?

Therailone85 · 02/03/2019 19:05

Quiz they have some lovely wedding guest outfits.

VanCleefArpels · 03/03/2019 08:52

ASOS definitely - free returns means you can order many frocks in various sizes for relaxed at home try on. We did DD prom dress in this manner 😉

TeenTimesTwo · 03/03/2019 13:34

Debenhams we can do - 2 within easy reach though neither very big
ASOS - thank you, they seem to have a large range of petite, though nothing jumped out at me, but maybe in a month or so
Quiz - I'll need to investigate as none near us.
Thank you.

Warehouse and Oasis might be better or H&M

Warehouse always pretty good quality for the price IMO

I recently needed a white dress for my petit 12-year-old and would agree with asos - i was able to search by colour and also did a size guide questionnaire so could also filter by size. Everything that arrived fitted, she chose her favourite and everything else went back for free.

We too are going to a wedding next summer - we will probably get her dress from asos.

Ted Baker have good dresses for teens and so does Lipsy from Next. They're not as tight and revealing as the adult catalogue.

Betty777 · 03/03/2019 15:23

Topshop petite

And perhaps this one for the elder of the two:

Not very easy with the High St. I rate Chi Chi London for smart petite dresses.

TeenTimesTwo · 03/03/2019 16:01

The Warehouse one is a bit casual to my eye.
The DotP ones are good though the colours wouldn't work, both DDs look better in rich jewel colours than yellow or pink.
Chi Chi ones are nice too. Perhaps I'll have to get over my dislike of online.
Ideally whatever we find for elder will also look good with smart jacket to cover tattoo I can't stand.
Thank you all, you have been a big help.Smile

Last time we went to something like that ( posh confirmation) dd who was 13 and a size 6 got a skirt and top from Ted Baker, which she wore with smart trainers

SimplyPut · 03/03/2019 20:50

Not sure how old your teens are? DS's girlfriend has this for a wedding in May. She is sixteen and looks stunning.

They will be 14 and 19. That Oasis dress is lovely, I think DD1 would love that kind of thing.
The trouble can be the lengths with their heights. Depending on the cuts, some standard things look lovely, and some just look dire.

KaliforniaDreamz · 04/03/2019 09:53

yes, know what you mean i am short and rarely buy petite (if i do i need to size up) as most regular fit seems ok if the right cut.

jsut order lots onlne and return.

maybe a dept store like John lewis which will have lots of brands. (stating the obvious sorry)

TeenTimesTwo · 04/03/2019 13:13

Feel free to state the obvious. Smile We haven't had to buy smart wedding stuff for years, so I'm starting from scratch.
DD2 hates shopping, DD1 wants to spend all her time with BF so I need a focussed approach. (I don't trust DD1 to just buy herself as she will have poor judgement as to what would be appropriate).

not smart enough perhaps but very cute and they might actually wear again! team wih a cute cardigan in yellow or something to lift into correct season. Oasis, Benetton and uniqlo do good plain cardigans.

search for fit and flare petite dresses.

SimplyPut · 04/03/2019 22:15

Zara is worth a look.

Thank you @TheRailOne85 @ErrolTheDragon and everyone else who made suggestions.

Today we went to Debenhams, had a personal shopper (!) and spent the best part of 3 hours trying on dresses, eventually ending up with

This dress for DD1 and this dress for DD2.
Plus for DD2 a matching jacket, shoes and a bag and fascinator things for both, navy for DD2 and dusky pink for DD1.

The 'easiest' shopping I have done in long while. Smile
