Leather dress- yay or nay and how to wear

I'm a forty something curvy size 16. About a year ago I bought a leather dress from a second hand shop. It was BNWT from autograph at M&S. I just couldn't resist- felt so good on, really soft leather and very flattering.

Thing is- I just haven't worn it! Nearly wore it to a Christmas do but my 12 and 10 year old DSs laughed at me...

So... can I wear it? If so what with? Heels? Boots? Tights? Jewellery? Jacket?

I'm going to a gig in London in September and think this could be the time!

Fwiw I'm 43 and curvy and would definitely consider wearing a leather dress of the right style but sadly I'm a bit too curvy to consider it the moment

I would also probably get the same reaction from my teenage DD...she nearly had a heart attack when I bought myself a biker jacket last year
